Performance Cold Air Intake Induction Kit for Ford Focus ST 2.0L EcoBoost Turbo (2013–2017) – High-Velocity Induction & Turbo Efficiency
This performance cold air intake induction kit is designed to replace the factory air box on 2013–2018 Ford Focus ST models equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost turbocharged engine. By utilizing mandrel-bent T304 aluminum intake piping and a high-flow air filter, the system significantly reduces intake restriction while optimizing airflow velocity to the turbocharger.
The redesigned induction path minimizes turbulence commonly created by the factory intake system and positions the air filter to draw in cooler, denser air. This supports improved combustion efficiency, faster turbo spool, enhanced throttle response, and increased volumetric efficiency across the RPM range. The result is stronger mid-range acceleration, improved highway passing performance, and a more responsive driving experience under boost.

Performance & Design
High-Velocity Airflow Optimization: This cold air intake system is engineered to maximize airflow efficiency by eliminating the restrictive factory air box and internal baffles. The smooth, mandrel-bent intake tubing provides a direct airflow path to the turbo inlet, reducing turbulence and pressure drop while improving volumetric efficiency.
Throttle Response & Turbo Efficiency: Reduced intake restriction allows the turbocharger to build boost more efficiently, resulting in quicker throttle response, improved turbo spool characteristics, and more immediate power delivery throughout the mid-range and upper RPM band.
Power Gains: Under optimal conditions, testing has shown potential gains of up to 10% in horsepower and torque. Actual performance improvements may vary depending on vehicle condition, altitude, ambient temperature, fuel quality, and supporting modifications.
Construction & Materials
T304 Aluminum Construction: The intake tube is manufactured from mandrel-bent T304 aluminum, offering excellent corrosion resistance and improved heat dissipation compared to factory plastic components. Consistent internal diameter throughout each bend ensures smooth airflow without restriction or collapse.
High-Flow Filter Design: The open-element, high-flow air filter features washable and reusable filter media designed to increase airflow while maintaining effective filtration. The filter location promotes cooler intake air temperatures and supports efficient combustion under load.

Filter Maintenance
Inspection Schedule: Inspect the air filter every 5,000 miles and clean if necessary. Driving conditions such as dusty environments, urban traffic, or spirited driving may require more frequent inspection and cleaning.
Cleaning Procedure: Remove the filter from the intake tube and gently tap it to remove loose debris. Apply an appropriate air filter cleaning solution to both the inside and outside of the filter element, working the solution into the filter media. Allow the cleaner to soak for approximately 10 minutes.
Rinse the filter thoroughly with low-pressure water from the clean side outward until water runs clear. Shake off excess water and allow the filter to air dry completely in a clean environment. Once fully dry, apply air filter oil evenly according to product specifications and allow the oil to wick through the filter material for approximately 20 minutes before reinstalling. Ensure the filter is completely dry before applying oil, as moisture will prevent proper oil absorption.
Sound Characteristics
Induction Sound: Removal of factory intake baffles combined with the open-element filter design produces a noticeably more aggressive turbo induction sound during acceleration and boost. Sound levels remain refined during normal driving while becoming more pronounced under heavy throttle and turbo load.
Compatibility Requirements: This cold air intake induction kit is designed exclusively for 2013–2017 Ford Focus ST models equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost turbocharged engine. Vehicle verification is recommended prior to purchase to ensure proper fitment.
Designed to enhance airflow efficiency, turbo response, and overall driving engagement, this performance intake system combines durable T304 aluminum construction with a high-flow filtration system. The result is consistent performance improvement, enhanced induction sound, and reliable engine protection while maintaining full compatibility with factory engine management.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic hand tools required, but maneuvering the factory turbo inlet pipe and dealing with brittle factory plastics demands patience.
Tools You Will Need
- 8mm and 10mm sockets with a 6-inch extension
- 7mm nut driver (or a flathead screwdriver)
- T20 Torx driver (for transferring the delicate factory sensor)
- Panel popper (for removing cowl clips if extra clearance is needed)
- Pliers (for the factory Sound Symposer clamp)
On the FoST, the factory PCV breather hose connects to the intake tube via a notorious, brittle plastic squeeze-tab fitting. Squeeze the textured sides inward and push down slightly before pulling up to release it. If you force it, the clip will snap, leaving you stuck waiting for a dealership replacement part. Additionally, handle the MAP/IAT sensor like glass—the element is completely exposed once pulled from the tube and breaks easily.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 2013-2018 Ford Focus 2.0L using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights.
- Remove the Engine Cover: Grab the factory engine cover firmly by its edges and pull straight up to pop it off the rubber mounting grommets. Set it safely aside.
- Unplug the MAP/IAT Sensor: Locate the MAP/IAT sensor on the upper factory intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press the release clip, and gently pull the connector free.
- Disconnect PCV and Symposer Lines: Carefully squeeze the plastic retaining clip on the PCV breather hose and slide it off. If your car retains the factory Sound Symposer, use your pliers to pinch the spring clamp and separate the corrugated hose from the intake tube.
- Loosen the Hose Clamps: Use your 7mm nut driver to loosen the hose clamp securing the intake tube to the factory airbox, and the clamp securing the tube to the turbo inlet down low near the firewall.
- Extract the Factory Intake: Pull the rubber intake tube off the turbo inlet and airbox. To remove the airbox itself, unhook the rubber retaining strap, then pull the entire lower box straight up to pop it out of the lower factory grommets.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford Focus ST (2013-2018) 2.0L Turbocharged Engine
- Transfer the Factory Sensor: Using a T20 Torx driver, carefully unscrew the factory MAP/IAT sensor from the OEM intake tube. Gently pull it straight out without touching the exposed element. Install it into your new aftermarket intake tube using the provided hardware. Tighten until snug—do not overtighten and strip the threads or crack the sensor flange.
- Mount the New Airbox/Heat Shield: Drop the new airbox assembly into the engine bay, pressing its mounting pegs firmly into the factory lower rubber grommets. Secure any top chassis mounts using an 8mm socket or 10mm socket, depending on the supplied hardware.
- Install the Couplers and Tube: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the turbo inlet and the new airbox flange. Loosely slide the provided T-bolt clamps over the couplers. Feed the new intake tube into position, seating it fully into both couplers.
- Secure Connections: Tighten all T-bolt clamps securely using a 10mm deep socket. Snap the factory PCV breather hose onto the new aluminum intake fitting until you hear a solid click. Cap off the Sound Symposer port if your kit deletes it, or reattach the hose with pliers if you are retaining it.
- Reconnect Power and Initialize: Plug the engine wire harness back into the MAP/IAT sensor and push the red locking tab down. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten with your 10mm wrench. On the first startup of your 2013-2018 Ford Focus 2.0L, the vehicle gas pedal should not be touched for 20 seconds until the ECU adjusts to the increased airflow parameters.
