Feeling your F-150’s 5.0L V8 choke on factory restrictions? Imagine instant throttle response and a powerful surge of acceleration every time you hit the gas.
Performance Cold Air Intake for Ford F-150 (2015-2020) 5.0L V8
The stock intake system on your Ford F-150’s potent 5.0L Coyote V8 is designed for quiet operation, not maximum performance. Its restrictive air box and narrow, convoluted tubing create turbulence and limit the volume of cool, dense air your engine can breathe, throttling your truck’s true potential and leaving horsepower on the table.
Unleash the full power of your F-150 with this high-flow cold air intake system, meticulously engineered to replace those factory bottlenecks. By providing a direct, streamlined path for cooler, oxygen-rich air, this upgrade optimizes combustion, delivering noticeable gains in horsepower and torque, along with crisper throttle response for a more engaging driving experience, whether you’re towing, hauling, or just cruising.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Unleash Peak Power: Replaces narrow factory ducting with a high-flow pathway to satisfy the V8 engine’s demand for air, boosting horsepower and torque by up to 10%.
- Instant Throttle Response: Eliminates the "laggy" feeling of the stock intake for more immediate power delivery, crucial for confident highway merging and sharper towing capability.
- Superior Thermal Management: Features a heavy-duty heat shield strategically designed to block ambient engine heat, ensuring consistent cold air delivery and preventing power-robbing heat soak.
- Aggressive V8 Roar: Enhances your F-150’s acoustic character with a deep, authoritative intake growl under acceleration, letting everyone know your Coyote V8 means business.
- Engineered for Durability: Built with premium mandrel-bent T304 lightweight aluminum piping and a high-flow washable and reusable synthetic air filter for lasting performance and superior engine protection.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward driveway bolt-on, but requires patience with the Coyote’s brittle plastic factory fittings.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm socket and ratchet (Battery terminal and factory airbox mounting bolt)
- 7mm and 8mm sockets or nut drivers (For factory and aftermarket hose clamps)
- Flathead screwdriver (For prying harness retaining clips)
- Plastic panel popper (To safely remove wiring loom clips without tearing the tape)
The F-150 5.0L community knows the pain of snapping the factory PCV and EVAP quick-disconnect fittings. They bake in engine heat and become incredibly brittle. Do not force them. Push the grey/green locking tab IN, push the fitting slightly forward toward the tube to release the internal tension, and then gently slide it off. Breaking these means a mandatory trip to the parts counter. Also, treat the factory twist-lock IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor like glass—never pry on the sensor body.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2015-2020 Ford F-150 5.0L
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to safely reset its fuel trims.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the upper factory intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press down on the release clip, and disconnect the wiring harness. Use a panel popper to gently pry the wiring harness anchor tree out of the factory tube.
- Disconnect the PCV Lines: Locate the crankcase breather and EVAP hoses connected to the intake tube. Carefully depress the plastic release tabs as mentioned in the pro-tip above, and slide them off the nipples. Tuck them safely out of the way.
- Loosen the Clamps: Grab your 7mm socket and loosen the factory hose clamp at the throttle body. Then, loosen the clamp securing the tube to the upper airbox housing.
- Remove the Intake Assembly: Use your 10mm socket to remove the single bolt securing the factory lower airbox to the driver’s side fender. Firmly pull the entire factory intake tube and airbox assembly straight up to pop it out of the lower rubber mounting grommets.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford F-150 (2015-2020) 5.0L V8 Engine Red
- Transfer the IAT Sensor: Carefully rotate the factory IAT sensor counter-clockwise about a quarter-turn and pull it straight out of the OEM tube. Apply a tiny drop of clean engine oil to the sensor’s rubber O-ring, then twist and lock it securely into your new aftermarket intake tube.
- Assemble the Heat Shield: Assemble the new red cold air intake heat shield and push the provided rubber edge trim onto the exposed edges. Drop the assembly into the factory lower mounting grommets and secure it to the fender using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket.
- Prep the Throttle Body: Slide the new silicone step-down coupler onto the 5.0L throttle body. Slide two hose clamps loosely over the coupler. Tighten the throttle body side down snugly using your 8mm socket.
- Seat the New Intake Tube: Guide the new intake tube through the heat shield and into the throttle body coupler. Reconnect your factory PCV and EVAP lines to the new machined aluminum fittings on the tube until you hear a definitive "click." Tighten the remaining hose clamp at the coupler with your 8mm socket.
- Install Filter and Reconnect: Attach the red high-flow cone filter to the end of the tube inside the heat shield. Tighten the filter clamp with your 8mm socket. Plug the wiring harness back into the IAT sensor and push the red locking tab forward to engage it.
- The Relearn Startup: Reconnect your negative battery terminal. Start the truck, but do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the Coyote idle untouched so the ECU can calibrate to the increased airflow volume without throwing a lean code.
