Feel the true potential of your F-150’s 5.0L V8 come alive with an immediate surge of power and crisp throttle response. Say goodbye to sluggish acceleration and experience the exhilarating, uninhibited performance your truck was meant to deliver.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Ford F-150 (5.0L V8)

The factory air intake system on your 2015-2020 Ford F-150 5.0L Coyote V8, while adequate for daily driving, becomes a significant bottleneck when you demand more from your truck. Its restrictive design and pleated paper filter limit airflow, starving your powerful V8 engine of the cool, dense oxygen it needs to produce maximum horsepower and torque, often resulting in a noticeable "laggy" feeling and a muted engine sound.

This high-performance cold air intake system specifically addresses these limitations, replacing the inefficient stock air box and narrow ducting with a meticulously engineered, streamlined induction path. By allowing your 5.0L V8 to draw in a much larger volume of cooler, denser air with less restriction, this kit unlocks crisper throttle sensitivity, more energetic acceleration, and a significant improvement in overall engine efficiency, perfectly complementing the F-150’s heavy-duty capabilities for towing, hauling, and spirited driving.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Unrestricted Power Delivery: Replaces narrow factory ducting with a high-flow pathway, satisfying your 5.0L Coyote V8 engine’s voracious demand for air, leading to notable gains in horsepower and torque.
  • Instant Throttle Feedback: Eliminates the "laggy" feeling of the stock intake, providing more immediate power delivery and sharper, more responsive performance ideal for confident merging and heavy-duty tasks.
  • Superior Thermal Management: Features a heavy-duty, custom-fit heat shield strategically designed to isolate the filter from ambient engine heat, ensuring your engine receives only cool, oxygen-rich air and preventing power-robbing heat soak.
  • Aggressive V8 Sound Profile: Enhances your F-150’s acoustic character with a deeper, more authoritative induction growl during acceleration, letting everyone know you mean business.
  • Engineered for Durability & Protection: Constructed from premium, mandrel-bent T304 lightweight aluminum piping for maximum airflow and corrosion resistance, coupled with an exceptional high-flow washable and reusable synthetic air filter to protect your engine’s internals.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time for Your 2015-2020 Ford F-150 5.0L

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires strict patience with brittle factory Coyote plastic fittings.

Tools You Will Need

  • 8mm deep socket and ratchet (for hose clamps and battery terminal)
  • 10mm socket (for factory airbox bolt)
  • 13mm socket (for aftermarket heat shield mounting)
  • Panel popper or flathead screwdriver (for wiring harness push-clips)
  • 4mm Allen wrench (for aftermarket hardware)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 2015-2020 Coyote 5.0L engines use rigid plastic Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) hoses with grey/green quick-disconnect tabs. These tabs get heat-cycled and become incredibly brittle. Do not pry on them with a screwdriver. Push the fitting in toward the intake tube first, firmly squeeze the locking tab, and then gently slide it off. Breaking these will cause a massive vacuum leak and instantly trigger a Check Engine Light.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2015-2020 Ford F-150 5.0L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using an 8mm or 10mm socket (depending on your specific terminal) to clear the KAM (Keep Alive Memory) and prevent a check engine light.
  2. Disconnect the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temp (IAT) sensor on the factory intake tube. Carefully slide the red locking tab back, press the release clip down, and unplug the harness. Do not yank the wires. Use a panel popper to free the harness tree-clip from the tube.
  3. Release the CCV Lines: Detach the crankcase breather lines from the factory intake tube. Remember the Pro Tip: press in, squeeze the tab, pull off. Tuck the lines out of the way.
  4. Loosen Factory Clamps: Use an 8mm deep socket to loosen the band clamps securing the intake tube to the throttle body and the factory airbox lid. Remove the factory tube.
  5. Extract the Airbox: Remove the single retaining bolt securing the airbox to the driver’s side fender using a 10mm socket. Grab the factory airbox housing and pull straight up with a firm tug to pop it out of the lower rubber mounting grommets.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford F-150 (2015-2020) 5.0L V8 Engine Black

  1. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Gently twist the factory IAT sensor counter-clockwise to unlock it from the OEM tube. Be extremely careful not to touch the exposed sensor element—finger oils will cause erratic idle readings. Align the tabs and twist it clockwise into your new Cold Air Intake tube until it locks.
  2. Install the New Airbox/Heat Shield: Drop the new aftermarket airbox base into the factory lower rubber grommets. Secure it to the fender using the provided hardware and a 10mm or 13mm socket. Lock it down tight so it doesn’t rattle against the inner fender.
  3. Mount the Intake Tube: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the throttle body and the new airbox flange. Insert the new black intake tube. Adjust for proper clearance away from the radiator hose and fan shroud, then lock down all band clamps using an 8mm deep socket.
  4. Reconnect Hoses and Wiring: Snap the factory CCV lines onto the new intake tube’s aluminum quick-connect fittings. You should hear a distinct "click." Plug the IAT sensor harness back in and engage the red locking clip.
  5. ECU Relearn Process: Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten it. Start the truck and let it idle. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. This allows the ECU to calibrate to the new, higher-volume airflow without throwing a lean code.
