Tired of your F-150’s EcoBoost feeling a bit breathless? Unlock the true potential of your twin-turbo powerplant with an upgrade designed to deliver immediate, noticeable gains.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Ford F-150 (2012-2014) 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Engine Red

The factory air intake system on your 2012-2014 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost is designed for quiet operation and cost-efficiency, not maximum performance. Its restrictive air box, narrow tubing, and corrugated sections create turbulence and impede airflow, starving your powerful twin-turbo engine of the oxygen it needs to truly shine. This inherent limitation often results in a sluggish throttle response, reduced power output, and a muted engine sound, especially under load.

This high-performance cold air intake system specifically addresses these factory shortcomings by providing a direct, high-flow pathway for oxygen-rich air to reach your turbos. Engineered with precision, it replaces the bottlenecking OEM components with mandrel-bent T304 lightweight aluminum piping and a large, high-flow filter. This design maximizes airflow efficiency, minimizes restrictive bends, and delivers cooler, denser air to your engine, translating directly into significant horsepower and torque gains, improved throttle response, and a more aggressive induction note for your F-150 EcoBoost.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Unrestricted Airflow: Replaces the restrictive factory air box and narrow ducting with a high-flow pathway, ensuring your 3.5L EcoBoost engine gets the maximum air it demands for optimal combustion.
  • Sharper Throttle Response: Eliminates the "laggy" feeling associated with the stock intake by providing immediate air delivery, resulting in more responsive acceleration and improved towing capability for your F-150.
  • Reduced Heat Soak: Features a robust heat shield that effectively isolates the air filter from hot engine bay temperatures, ensuring only cool, dense air reaches your turbos for consistent power delivery.
  • Enhanced Engine Sound: Elevates your F-150’s acoustic character with a deeper, more aggressive induction growl during acceleration, letting you hear the power of your EcoBoost engine.
  • Durable & Lightweight Construction: Built from premium T304 mandrel-bent aluminum piping, this intake is designed for superior heat dissipation, corrosion resistance, and long-term reliability under all conditions.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward driveway bolt-on, but maneuvering the aftermarket Y-pipe onto the twin turbos takes a little patience and alignment.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm wrench (for the battery terminal)
  • 7mm, 8mm, and 10mm sockets with an extension and ratchet
  • T20 Torx bit (for the factory IAT sensor)
  • Right-angle pick tool or small flathead screwdriver
  • Panel popper tool
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 2012-2014 3.5L EcoBoost’s factory red/gray locking tab on the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor harness is notoriously brittle from years of under-hood heat. If you muscle it with your thumb, it will shatter. Use a small pick tool to gently pull back the locking tab. Furthermore, never touch the exposed element of the sensor during transfer—body oils will foul the reading and you’ll be chasing idle surges all weekend.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2012-2014 Ford F-150 3.5L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to clear its memory.
  2. Disconnect the Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Carefully slide back the locking tab with a pick tool, squeeze, and unplug the harness. Remove the sensor from the tube using a T20 Torx bit. Place it in a safe, clean spot.
  3. Loosen the Clamps: Using an 8mm socket or a flathead screwdriver, loosen the three factory hose clamps—two at the turbo inlet pipes and one at the airbox lid.
  4. Extract the Factory Tubing: Pop the retaining clips on the factory airbox lid. Pull the entire upper airbox and accordion Y-pipe assembly off the turbo inlets and out of the engine bay.
  5. Remove the Lower Airbox: Remove the single mounting bolt on the fender side using a 10mm socket. Pull the lower airbox straight up to pop it free from the factory rubber mounting grommets.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford F-150 (2012-2014) 3.5L EcoBoost Engine - Red

  1. Mount the Heat Shield: Assemble the new heat shield/airbox as per the manufacturer diagram. Drop the assembly into the factory rubber grommets and secure it using the factory mounting location and your 10mm socket. Install the new high-flow Red air filter.
  2. Install the Couplers: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the factory turbo inlet pipes. Slide the hose clamps over the couplers and snug them slightly with an 8mm socket, but leave them loose enough to allow the tubes to rotate for alignment.
  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Gently push the factory IAT sensor into the provided grommet or mounting plate on your new intake tube. If it uses screws, secure it with a Phillips head screwdriver or your T20 Torx. Do not over-torque; the aftermarket plastic/aluminum threads easily strip.
  4. Seat the Tubing: Guide the new intake Y-pipe into the silicone couplers at the turbo side, then slide the main tube into the airbox filter. Once you are happy with the clearance (make sure it isn’t rubbing on the coolant reservoir or lines), lock down all hose clamps tightly with your 8mm socket. Reconnect the IAT sensor harness until you hear it click.
  5. The Relearn Procedure: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench. Start your 2012-2014 Ford F-150 3.5L. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the truck idle so the ECU can calibrate to the newly increased airflow volume.
