2005-2008 Ford F-150 (5.4L V8) High-Velocity Cold Air Intake System

Wake up your Triton V8. Experience the power your truck was built to deliver.

The 11th Generation Ford F-150 set the standard for the modern pickup—tough, capable, and rugged. However, the stock air box on the 5.4L Triton V8 was designed for silence, not performance, effectively choking your engine's potential. It’s time to remove those restrictions.

This High-Velocity Airflow Induction System is engineered specifically for the 2005–2008 F-150 platform. By replacing the restrictive factory tubing with a streamlined intake path and an integrated heat barrier, this kit forces a larger volume of cool, oxygen-rich air directly into your engine. The result? A truck that breathes deeper, pulls harder, and sounds like the beast it is.

Why Your F-150 Needs This Upgrade

Whether you are towing a boat to the lake, hauling heavy loads to the job site, or simply merging onto the highway, you need immediate power. This system eliminates the "lag" associated with the stock intake, modernizing your engine bay and your driving experience.

  • Unleash Hidden Power: Optimized airflow enhances combustion efficiency, providing a noticeable boost in horsepower and torque across the entire RPM range. Feel the difference when you hit the gas.
  • Sharp Throttle Response: By smoothing out the air turbulence found in factory piping, this system reduces intake lag. You get power the moment your foot touches the pedal.
  • Defend Against Heat Soak: The included heavy-duty thermal heat shield isolates the air filter from the scorching heat of the engine bay. This ensures your intake is feeding the engine dense, cool air for consistent performance, even in traffic or under load.
  • The Triton Growl: Ditch the whisper-quiet stock sound. Under acceleration, this intake gives your 5.4L V8 a deep, authoritative throatiness that matches the rugged character of the F-150.

Engineered for Durability and Fitment

This isn't a universal part; it is a direct bolt-on upgrade designed to fit perfectly within the engine bay of the 11th Gen F-150. It utilizes existing mounting points, meaning no cutting or drilling is required.

Vehicle Fitment 2005–2008 Ford F-150 (All Trims)
Engine Application 5.4L Triton V8
Filter Type Premium Washable & Reusable Performance Filter
System Type High-Flow Induction with Thermal Heat Shield

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Beginner friendly, basic hand tools needed.

Tools You Will Need

  • 8mm Socket or Wrench (Battery terminal & hose clamps)
  • 10mm Socket & Ratchet (Stock airbox mounting bolts)
  • 13mm Socket (Heat shield mounting points)
  • T20 Torx Bit (CRITICAL: For the MAF Sensor)
  • Flathead Screwdriver (Prying clips/couplers)
  • Extension Bar (6-inch)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
Two things on the 5.4L Triton: 1) The crankcase vent (PCV) tube on the driver’s side valve cover uses a plastic clip that becomes extremely brittle due to heat cycles. Do not yank it; gently release the tab or it will snap. 2) The MAF sensor is the heart of this engine. Do not touch the exposed wire/filament with your skin. Oils from your fingers can cause a P0171 (System Lean) code.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Power: Start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 2005-2008 Ford F-150 5.4L using an 8mm wrench. This resets the ECU so it can learn the new airflow parameters.
  2. Disconnect the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on the intake tube near the airbox. Slide the red locking tab back (if present) and squeeze the connector to unplug it. Use a T20 Torx bit to remove the sensor from the housing. Set this aside in a safe, clean spot immediately.
  3. Detach Breather Lines: Disconnect the crankcase vent hose (PCV) from the intake tube. Depending on your specific model year trim, you may need a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the green or grey locking tab.
  4. Remove the Intake Tube: Loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body using an 8mm socket or flathead. Remove the bolts securing the intake plenum to the engine using a 10mm socket. Pull the tube free.
  5. Pull the Airbox: Remove the single bolt holding the lower airbox to the fender well (usually a 10mm or 13mm bolt). Pull the entire bucket assembly straight up to release it from the rubber grommets.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  1. Prep the Heat Shield: Install the edge trim onto the new metal heat shield to prevent rattling. Drop the shield into the truck and secure it using the provided hardware and your 10mm/13mm socket, utilizing the factory mounting points on the fender.
  2. Install the MAF Sensor: Carefully insert your factory MAF sensor into the new intake tube. Crucial: Ensure the airflow arrow on the sensor points toward the engine (throttle body). Secure it with the supplied hardware using a screwdriver or Allen key (do not use the factory screws if they are self-tapping; use the kit hardware).
  3. Mount the Couplers: Slide the silicone reducer coupler onto the throttle body. Tighten the hose clamp with an 8mm socket just enough to hold it in place—do not crank it down yet.
  4. Install the Tube & Filter: Lower the new tube into position. Connect the filter to the tube inside the heat shield. Reconnect the PCV breather line to the fitting on the new tube. Once everything is aligned and not rubbing against the fan shroud or coolant lines, tighten all hose clamps firmly.
  5. Reconnect & Relearn: Plug the MAF harness back into the sensor. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 8mm wrench.

Ford Idle Relearn: Start the truck and let it idle for 15 minutes. The 5.4L ECU needs to adjust to the increased air volume. Do not rev the engine immediately; let the idle stabilize first.
