10mm wrench or socket (for dual battery terminals and factory mounting hardware)
8mm (5/16") nut driver or socket (for intake hose clamps)

T15/T20 Torx or Phillips screwdriver (for transferring the factory temperature/IAT sensor)
13mm socket and ratchet (for factory airbox bracket bolts, if applicable)

Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the 3rd Gen 5.9L Common Rail Cummins, the red locking tab on the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor harness plug becomes extremely brittle from turbo heat cycles. Do NOT pry it aggressively with a screwdriver. Gently slide the red lock back with your thumb, depress the center tab, and pull straight out. Additionally, pull the lower OEM airbox straight UP—yanking it toward the engine will snap the plastic mounting prongs right out of the inner fender grommets.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

Disconnect the Batteries: Because the 2003-2007 Dodge Ram Ram 2500 Ram Ram 3500 2500 3500 5.9L utilizes a dual-battery setup, disconnect the negative battery terminals on BOTH the driver and passenger side batteries using a 10mm wrench to prevent ECM faults and accidental short circuits.
Unplug the Factory Sensor: Locate the IAT/inlet sensor on the factory intake tract. Carefully disengage the red locking clip and unplug the electrical connector. Set the harness safely aside.
Loosen Intake Clamps: Using an 8mm (5/16") nut driver, loosen the hose clamp securing the factory rubber intake elbow to the turbocharger compressor inlet, as well as the clamp connecting to the stock airbox.
Remove the Factory Intake Tube: Detach the factory intake tube (and built-in torque/silencer baffle) from the turbo inlet and pull it clear of the engine bay.
Extract the Stock Airbox: Firmly grasp the stock air filter housing with both hands and pull straight upward to release the bottom retention pins from the rubber grommets in the fender tray. Remove the complete airbox assembly from the truck.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

Transfer the Factory Sensor: Carefully remove the factory IAT sensor from the OEM intake tube using a T20 Torx or Phillips screwdriver (depending on your specific model year). Install the sensor into the new intake pipe bung using the supplied rubber grommet or mounting plate. Tighten the hardware snugly with a screwdriver, ensuring an airtight seal without overtightening into the plastic or aluminum.
Install Heat Shield / Airbox: Mount the new heat shield or enclosed intake box into the OEM lower rubber grommets on the fender well. If your kit includes a lower bracket, secure it to the chassis using the factory hardware and a 10mm socket.
Mount Turbo Coupler: Slide the silicone reducer/hump coupler over the turbocharger inlet snout. Slip the supplied clamps over the coupler and hand-tighten the lower turbo-side clamp using an 8mm nut driver or 10mm deep socket.
Position the Intake Tube: Guide the new intake tube into the turbo coupler first, then align the filter end into the heat shield opening. Ensure proper clearance between the intake pipe, the AC lines, and the upper radiator hose to prevent vibration wear. Tighten the remaining coupler clamps using an 8mm nut driver.
Install the High-Flow Filter & Sensor Harness: Slide the conical air filter onto the end of the intake tube inside the box and tighten the worm-drive clamp using an 8mm nut driver. Reconnect the factory wiring harness to the IAT sensor until it clicks, and slide the red locking tab into the locked position.
Reconnect and Calibrate: Reconnect both negative battery terminals using a 10mm wrench. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, wait for the grid heater cycle light to turn off, and start the engine. Do not touch the throttle pedal for at least 20 seconds to allow the Cummins ECM to calibrate baseline airflow readings with the new intake tract.
