Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 3rd Gen forum community universally complains about two things on this job: the massive factory resonator (the "Hemi Hat" or "Turtle Shell") that heat-soaks the engine, and the extremely brittle Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. When removing the IAT sensor from the factory tube, DO NOT pull it by the wires. The heat from the 4.7L/5.7L bakes this plastic. If you snap the IAT tip off or tear the O-ring, your truck will throw an immediate Check Engine Light and run incredibly rich.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

Apply a single drop of silicone spray or soapy water to the grommet, and gently press the IAT sensor in until it sits flush. Never force it dry.
  2. Assemble the Heat Shield: Build the new airbox/heat shield assembly using the supplied hardware and a 10mm socket. Drop it into the factory mounting holes in the fender well, pushing down firmly to seat the lower pins.
  3. Mount the Couplers and Tube: Slide the provided silicone coupler onto the throttle body and secure it loosely with an 8mm nut driver. Insert the new intake tube through the heat shield and into the throttle body coupler.
  4. Tighten and Reconnect: Install the new high-flow air filter onto the end of the tube inside the heat shield. Tighten down all 8mm hose clamps securely, but do not overtighten to the point of crushing the tube. Reconnect the IAT sensor harness and lock the red tab.
  5. The ECU Relearn Procedure: Reconnect your negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Start the truck, but absolutely DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let it idle untouched so the ECU can properly calibrate the air-fuel ratio to the massive increase in airflow.
