Performance Cold Air Intake Kit for 5.7L V8 HEMI Engines

Unlock the true performance potential of your HEMI-powered truck or SUV with this high-flow cold air intake system, engineered to deliver improved throttle response, increased airflow, and a more aggressive engine sound. Designed specifically for 5.7L V8 HEMI applications, this intake replaces the restrictive factory air box with a free-flowing performance solution that enhances both power and efficiency.

By drawing in cooler, denser air, the intake helps your engine burn fuel more efficiently—resulting in stronger acceleration, noticeable horsepower gains, and improved mid-range torque where HEMI engines shine.

Vehicle Fitment

  • 2003–2008 Dodge Ram 1500 — All models with 5.7L V8 HEMI
  • Compatible with both Manual and Automatic transmissions

Key Features & Performance Benefits

  • Lightweight T-304 aluminum intake pipe for strength, durability, and heat resistance
  • Polished anodized finish to reduce heat soak and resist corrosion and wear
  • High-flow washable and reusable air filter for long-term savings
  • Helps the engine draw in more and colder air for improved combustion efficiency
  • Improves throttle response and acceleration across low-to-mid RPM ranges
  • Supports up to 5–7% horsepower gains and 6–8% torque improvement
  • High-performance filtration design with up to 95% filtration efficiency
  • Enhances engine bay appearance with a clean, sporty look
  • Produces a deeper, throatier intake sound under acceleration

Why Upgrade from the Factory Air Box?

  • Increased horsepower and torque
  • Faster throttle response and stronger acceleration
  • Potential improvement in fuel economy during normal driving
  • Aggressive performance sound
  • Reduced filter replacement costs with a reusable design

Installation Information

  • Direct bolt-on replacement for the factory air box
  • Installation requires basic hand tools (screwdrivers and socket wrenches)
  • Most customers complete installation in under 1 hour
  • All necessary mounting hardware is included
  • Professional installation recommended for best results

Installation Tip: After installation, briefly disconnect the battery to allow the engine computer to relearn the new airflow characteristics. Always disconnect the battery before performing engine work.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Basic hand tools and top-engine access. If you can change your oil, you can ditch the restrictive factory "HEMI Hat."

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket and ratchet (for battery terminal and airbox bolts)
  • 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver (for hose clamps)
  • 13mm socket (for the factory resonator bracket)
  • Panel popper tool (to safely remove wire harness push-clips)
  • Clean engine oil or silicone spray (vital for sensor transfer)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the 3rd Gen 5.7L HEMI, the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor is notoriously brittle. It sits right in the factory intake tube. Third-gen forum guys constantly snap the little plastic locking tab off by pulling too hard. You must twist it counter-clockwise unlocking it BEFORE you pull. When pushing it into your new intake tube, use a drop of oil on the rubber grommet. If you try to force it in dry, you will tear the grommet or snap the sensor probe.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench or socket to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset for the new airflow.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the front of the factory intake tube. Gently push the release tab and pull the wire harness connector off. Use your panel popper to free the harness wire from any plastic clips holding it to the factory airbox.
  3. Remove the Crankcase Breather: Disconnect the factory PCV/crankcase breather hose from the oil filler neck housing. It usually pulls right off with a firm tug.
  4. Loosen the Clamps: Use your 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamps securing the intake tube to the throttle body and the airbox.
  5. Remove the "HEMI Hat": The bulky plastic resonator sitting on top of the engine is bolted down. Use your 13mm socket to remove the mounting bolt holding it to the bracket. Once unbolted, lift the entire resonator and tube assembly straight up and off the throttle body.
  6. Yank the Airbox: Remove the 10mm bolt securing the lower half of the factory airbox to the fender well. Firmly pull the airbox straight up to pop it out of the factory rubber mounting grommets.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for 2003-2008 Dodge Ram Ram 1500 Ram 1500 5.7L

  1. Assemble the Heat Shield: Put together your new aftermarket heat shield and install the edge trim. Press the shield assembly down into the factory rubber fender grommets, and secure it using the provided hardware and a 10mm socket.
  2. Mount the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone step-coupler onto the throttle body. Slide two hose clamps loosely over the coupler, and tighten the inner clamp down onto the throttle body using your 8mm socket.
  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor (CRITICAL STEP): Carefully twist the fragile IAT sensor counter-clockwise and pull it out of the factory tube. Install the supplied rubber grommet into your new intake tube. Apply a drop of clean oil to the grommet, and gently twist and push the IAT sensor into the new tube until seated.
  4. Install the New Intake Tube: Slide the intake tube into the throttle body coupler and through the heat shield. Tighten the remaining 8mm hose clamps snugly. Do not overtighten and crush the tube.
  5. Connect the Breather and Filter: Attach the new provided crankcase breather hose from the intake tube to the oil filler neck port. Finally, slide your new high-flow cone filter onto the end of the tube inside the heat shield and lock it down with an 8mm socket. Reconnect the IAT wire harness until it clicks.
  6. The Relearn Procedure: Reconnect your negative battery terminal. Turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine yet). Start the truck and do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. This allows the ECU to read the new intake temperatures and adjust the idle trim without throwing a Check Engine Light.
