Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The LX platform (Magnum/300/Charger) uses a Speed Density system. This means there is no MAF sensor, but there IS a fragile Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor stabbed directly into the factory rubber intake tube. Do not yank it out by the wires or pry it with a flathead! Give it a gentle quarter-turn and wiggle it out. If you snap the plastic locking tab, you’ll be hunting down a vacuum leak and dealing with an immediate Check Engine Light.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Pop the trunk. On your 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum 5.7L 6.1L, the battery is hidden in the rear cargo area under the floor panel. Disconnect the negative terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and electrical shorts.
  2. Remove the Engine Cover: Grab the silver and black Hemi engine cover by the edges and firmly pull straight up to pop it off its friction grommets. Set it aside safely.
  3. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube just before the throttle body. Carefully depress the locking tab on the harness and pull the connector off. Leave the physical sensor in the tube for now to protect the tip.
  4. Loosen the Clamps & Breather: Use your 8mm nut driver to loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and the airbox. Disconnect the factory PCV crankcase breather hose from the airbox—be extremely gentle, this rubber hose gets notoriously brittle over the years from under-hood heat soak.
  5. Extract the Factory Intake: Remove the single 10mm bolt securing the lower airbox to the core support. Grab the entire assembly (airbox, tube, and that massive "Hemi Hat" resonator) and pull it firmly upwards to release it from the lower rubber locating pins. Remove it from the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Dodge Magnum RT & SRT-8

  1. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Carefully twist and pull the IAT sensor out of your factory tube. Spray a tiny amount of silicone lube (or soapy water) onto the supplied rubber grommet of your new intake tube, and gently push the IAT sensor into place until fully seated.
  2. Mount the Heat Shield: Drop the new aftermarket heat shield into the factory airbox location. Secure it by pressing the lower pegs into the factory rubber grommets and tightening down the top bracket using the original 10mm bolt and your 10mm socket.
  3. Install the Silicone Coupler: Slide the provided silicone coupler onto your throttle body and snug down the throttle-body side clamp using an 8mm socket. Leave the intake-side clamp loose for adjustment.
  4. Drop in the Intake Tube & Filter: Slide the new cold air intake tube into the throttle body coupler. Align it so it passes through the heat shield, then attach the new high-flow air filter onto the end. Tighten all remaining 8mm clamps. Reconnect the IAT wiring harness until you hear a "click," and attach the supplied PCV breather hose.
  5. The 20-Second Rule: Reconnect your negative battery terminal in the trunk using your 10mm wrench. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. This is critical: it allows the ECU to recalibrate the drive-by-wire throttle body and adjust to the new airflow parameters. After 20 seconds, fire it up and listen to that Hemi breathe.
