Give your Durango or Dakota's 4.7L V8 the airflow it needs—this high-flow intake delivers up to 10% more power, sharper throttle response, and that aggressive V8 growl.

More Power for Work and Play

The early 2000s Durango and Dakota were Dodge's workhorses—tough, capable trucks built on a proven platform with the legendary 4.7L PowerTech V8. While these engines were reliable, the factory airbox was designed for quiet operation, not performance. This high-flow intake system replaces that restrictive setup with a streamlined induction path that lets your V8 breathe freely.

The result? Up to 10% gains in horsepower and torque, crisper throttle response, and a deeper, more authoritative intake note when you're on the gas. Whether you're towing a trailer, hauling gear, or just merging onto the highway with confidence, this intake gives your Dodge the extra surge it's been holding back.

Built for Real-World Performance

  • Increased Power Output: Up to 10% boost in horsepower and torque across the powerband
  • Better Throttle Response: Reduces intake restriction for immediate power delivery when you need it
  • Improved Airflow Efficiency: High-volume intake path satisfies your V8's demand for air under heavy load
  • Aggressive Sound: Deep, resonant intake roar during acceleration that settles down at cruise
  • Washable Filter: Reusable performance filter saves money on replacements—just clean and re-oil
  • Direct Bolt-On Fit: Uses factory mounting points for straightforward installation with basic hand tools

Simple Installation

This intake system replaces your factory airbox and installs using existing mounting points. Most installations take 60-90 minutes with basic hand tools. Before starting, disconnect your battery's negative terminal to allow the ECU to reset and adapt to the improved airflow. Always work on a completely cool engine for safety.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward bolt-on upgrade, but demands patience when wrestling with 20-year-old brittle plastics and transferring the delicate intake temperature sensor.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm deep socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet
  • 10mm combination wrench
  • 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver
  • Panel popper tool (for stubborn wiring harness clips)
  • Clean engine oil or silicone spray (for safe sensor transfer)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 2000-2002 Dodge Dakota Durango 4.7L community is well aware of the dreaded factory "resonator hat" that sits directly on top of the throttle body. Not only does it choke airflow, but the rubber gasket underneath it often dry-rots, causing invisible vacuum leaks and idle surges. When you pull this assembly off, make sure no rotten rubber debris falls down into the open throttle body. Furthermore, the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor pushed into the factory plastic tube is incredibly fragile. Never pull it straight out; gently twist it back and forth to break the 20-year-old seal without snapping the thermistor tip.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and reset fuel trims on your 2000-2002 Dodge Dakota Durango 4.7L.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temperature sensor harness plugged into the side of the factory air tube. Depress the locking tab and carefully pull the plug free. Use a panel popper if the wiring harness is anchored to the intake box.
  3. Loosen the Factory Clamps: Grab your 8mm socket or a flathead screwdriver to completely loosen the hose clamps securing the factory intake tube to the throttle body resonator hat and the factory air box.
  4. Extract the Factory Box: Use your 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the two bolts securing the bulky factory resonator box to the engine block, then remove the bolts holding the factory air box to the passenger side fender well. Lift the entire restrictive assembly out of the engine bay.
  5. Rescue the IAT Sensor: Carefully twist the factory IAT sensor back and forth to walk it out of the old plastic tube. Treat the exposed sensor tip like fragile glass. Set it aside in a safe, clean spot.

Phase 2: Installing the Blue Cold Air Intake

  1. Mount the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the new silicone coupler over your throttle body. Secure the bottom clamp using an 8mm socket, but do not overtighten and warp the throttle body lip. Slide the second clamp loosely onto the top of the coupler.
  2. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Insert the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new Blue Cold Air Intake tube. Apply a single drop of clean engine oil or silicone spray to the plastic base of your factory IAT sensor, and gently push it fully into the new grommet.
  3. Route the Blue Tube and Heat Shield: Bolt the provided heat shield to the factory fender well mounting points using your 10mm socket. Slide the throttle body end of the blue aluminum intake tube into the silicone coupler. Once aligned properly, lock it down by tightening the top clamp with your 8mm socket.
  4. Mount the Filter: Slide the high-flow conical blue air filter onto the end of the intake tube resting inside the heat shield area. Tighten the filter clamp firmly with your 8mm socket. Reconnect the IAT sensor wiring harness until it clicks securely.
  5. First Startup Protocol: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. The ECU needs this undisturbed idle time to calibrate its fuel trims to the massive increase in cold airflow. Check for any whistling sounds that might indicate a loose clamp.
