Performance Cold Air Intake Induction Kit for 2004–2009 Durango's 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L – Optimized Airflow and Increased Power
Personalized to unlock the hidden performance of your Durango's engine, this precision-engineered induction system focuses on maximizing your total output. Custom-built for the 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8, and 5.7L V8 engines, this kit replaces the restrictive factory air box that often limits your vehicle's potential during towing or highway acceleration. Whether you are keeping things stock or looking to improve your Durango's power, this performance upgrade provides the high-velocity route needed for better efficiency and a more responsive driving experience.
Standard intake parts are often designed for silence, creating internal restrictions that limit the engine's air supply. By allowing your engine to pull in a larger volume of cooler, dense air, this system removes those barriers. This ensures that throttle response stays sharp throughout the power band, leading to faster acceleration and a higher horsepower output for your Durango's daily performance.
Key Features & Performance Benefits
-
Power Gain: Boosts horsepower and torque by up to 10% for a noticeable performance increase.
-
Fuel Efficiency: Balances air-to-fuel ratios for a more effective combustion cycle.
-
Instant Response: Improves throttle feedback for more immediate acceleration.
-
Engine Tone: Produces a deeper, more aggressive sound under heavy acceleration.
-
High Filtration: Shields internal components from debris while maintaining maximum flow.
-
Cooler Intake: Designed to draw in lower-temperature air for better engine operation.
Vehicle Fitment
Durango's 2004–2009 models with 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8, or 5.7L V8 engine
What's Included
Your kit features the high-velocity induction piping, a high-flow performance air filter, and all required couplers, clamps, and hardware for a complete and secure installation.
Installation Tip
Disconnect the NEGATIVE GROUND CABLE from the battery before starting the installation and keep it off for at least one minute after you finish. This reset allows the engine's computer to learn the new airflow parameters. Ensure the engine is completely cool before beginning work.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - Straightforward bolt-on procedure, but requires patience with brittle 2nd-Gen factory plastics and the delicate IAT sensor.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm socket and ratchet (For the battery, factory airbox, and new heat shield)
- 8mm socket or nut driver (For factory throttle body clamps and new hose clamps)
- 13mm socket (For the V8 engine-mounted resonator bracket)
- Flathead screwdriver (For prying the crankcase breather clip)
- Silicone spray lubricant (Crucial for the factory sensor transfer)
The Dodge community universally despises the giant factory "Hemi Hat" (or the bulky 4.7L resonator box) because the rubber grommet holding the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor bakes into solid plastic over the years. Do NOT pry the IAT sensor out with a screwdriver, and never pull it by the wires. You will snap the fragile plastic tip, and your truck will run terribly. Spray the grommet with a shot of silicone lube, twist the sensor 90 degrees to break the seal, and gently wiggle it out.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench or 10mm socket. This prevents accidental shorts and clears the ECU memory for the new 2004-2010 Dodge Durango 3.7L 4.7L 5.7L intake volume.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor plugged into the side of the factory intake tube or resonator box. Depress the plastic locking tab and slide the harness connector off. Tuck the wiring aside so it does not get pinched.
- Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Take your 8mm socket and loosen the factory worm-gear clamp securing the intake tube to the throttle body. Break it loose, but there is no need to remove the clamp entirely.
- Remove the Resonator and Airbox: Remove the mounting bolts securing the factory resonator hat and lower airbox housing using a 10mm socket. On V8 models, use a 13mm socket to remove the bolt holding the resonator bracket to the engine block. Disconnect the crankcase breather hose from the airbox using a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the retaining clip.
- Extract the Factory Assembly: Firmly grab the factory airbox and resonator assembly. Pull straight up to pop the lower airbox off its rubber mounting grommets, and lift the entire bulky unit out of the engine bay.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Dodge Durango (2004-2010) 3.7L 4.7L 5.7L Engines
- Prep the Heat Shield: Assemble your aftermarket cold air intake heat shield. Drop it into the factory lower airbox location, aligning it with the factory mounting holes. Secure it down using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket.
- Transfer the IAT Sensor: Push the newly supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on the new intake tube. Apply a tiny drop of silicone spray to the inside of the grommet. Gently press your factory IAT sensor into the grommet until fully seated. Handle it delicately to avoid cracking the thermistor.
- Mount the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone step-down coupler onto the throttle body. Slip the provided clamps over the coupler and tighten the throttle body side snugly using an 8mm nut driver. Leave the intake-tube side clamp loose for adjustments.
- Install the Intake Tube and Filter: Guide the new Cold Air Intake tube through the heat shield and slide it into the throttle body coupler. Attach the new high-flow air filter to the end of the tube inside the heat shield and tighten the filter clamp with your 8mm socket. Connect the provided crankcase breather hose from the engine block to the welded nipple on the new intake tube. Plug the factory wiring harness back into the IAT sensor.
- The ECU Relearn Startup: Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench and tighten it down. Turn the key and start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle so the Dodge ECU can adjust its fuel trims to the massive increase in airflow and the new IAT sensor location without throwing a check engine light.
