Tired of your Dodge Dakota’s sluggish throttle response and muted engine sound? Unlock its true potential with a high-performance cold air intake that delivers instant power and a robust, aggressive growl every time you hit the gas.
Performance Cold Air Intake System for Dodge Dakota (2003-2010) 3.7L V6 / 4.7L V8
The factory air intake system in your Dodge Dakota, whether equipped with the 3.7L V6 or 4.7L V8, is designed for quiet operation and cost efficiency, not maximum performance. Its restrictive air box, corrugated intake tube, and inefficient paper filter choke your engine’s ability to breathe freely, leading to a noticeable lag in throttle response and hindering both horsepower and torque output, especially under load or during spirited driving.
This high-flow cold air intake kit directly addresses these limitations, replacing the OEM bottlenecks with a precision-engineered, free-flowing induction path. By drawing in a greater volume of cooler, denser air and delivering it directly to your engine with minimal resistance, this system optimizes the combustion process. The result is a significant improvement in horsepower and torque, sharper throttle response, and a more fuel-efficient ride, making your Dakota feel more powerful and responsive than ever before.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Unleash Hidden Horsepower: Overcomes factory restrictions, allowing your 3.7L V6 or 4.7L V8 engine to inhale more air for substantial gains in power and torque.
- Instant Throttle Response: Eliminates the "dead spot" and lag associated with the stock intake, providing immediate power delivery for quicker acceleration and improved drivability.
- Aggressive Engine Sound: Transforms your Dakota’s acoustics, giving your V6 or V8 engine a deep, muscular intake roar under acceleration that truly enhances the driving experience.
- Enhanced Fuel Efficiency: By optimizing the air-to-fuel ratio with denser, cooler air, your engine operates more efficiently, potentially leading to improved mileage.
- Durable, Easy Installation: Features a direct bolt-on design with robust, heat-resistant components and a washable, reusable filter for long-lasting performance and simple maintenance.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 2/10 - Beginner friendly, basic hand tools needed. No lift required.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet (Battery, heat shield mounting points)
- 8mm Socket or Flathead Screwdriver (Hose clamps)
- 13mm Socket (Stock airbox mounting bolts)
- Panel Popper or Trim Tool (Removing wire harness clips)
- Needle Nose Pliers (Crankcase vent hose clamp)
- Silicone Spray or Dish Soap (Crucial for the grommet installation)
The 3.7L and 4.7L PowerTech engines do not use a MAF sensor; they run off Speed Density. However, you MUST transfer the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) Sensor located in the stock intake tube. These sensors become extremely brittle due to engine bay heat cycles. Do not pull it by the wires. Twist gently to unlock it. If the O-ring looks flattened or cracked, replace it now to avoid a vacuum leak and a rough idle.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Resonator
This section covers the teardown for the 2003-2010 Dodge Dakota 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8.
- Disconnect the Battery: Safety first. Use a 10mm socket or wrench to disconnect the negative terminal. This resets the ECU so it can relearn the airflow map for the new intake.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the electrical harness on the factory intake tube (near the throttle body). Squeeze the tab and pull the plug. Use a trim tool to pop any plastic clips holding the wire to the intake box.
- Disconnect the Breather Hose: Locate the crankcase vent hose connected to the oil filler neck or valve cover. Use pliers to slide the spring clamp back and pull the hose free from the intake resonator.
- Remove the Resonator "Hat": Loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body and the clamp near the fender air box using an 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver. Lift the bulky resonator box off the engine.
- Remove the Lower Air Box: Remove the retaining bolts (usually 10mm or 13mm depending on the year) securing the lower filter housing to the fender well. Pull the box straight up to release it from the rubber grommets.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake
- Prepare the Heat Shield: Assemble the metal heat shield using the supplied hardware. Install the weather stripping along the top edge to seal against the hood (this prevents hot engine air from causing heat soak). Drop the heat shield into the truck using the factory mounting points and tighten with a 10mm socket.
- Transfer the IAT Sensor: This is the critical step. Insert the supplied rubber grommet into the hole on the new aluminum intake pipe. Lightly lube the IAT sensor probe with silicone spray or soapy water, then gently push/twist it into the grommet. Be careful not to snap the plastic probe.
- Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the silicone coupler onto the throttle body. Secure it with a hose clamp using your 8mm socket. Do not overtighten yet—leave it loose enough to adjust the angle.
- Mount the Intake Pipe: Slide the intake pipe into the throttle body coupler and align the other end with the heat shield. Connect the crankcase vent hose to the new nipple on the pipe (use the supplied hose if the factory one is too short).
- Install the High-Flow Filter: Slide the filter onto the pipe inside the heat shield area. Once everything is aligned and not rubbing against metal lines or the fan shroud, tighten all hose clamps with an 8mm socket or screwdriver.
- Reconnect and Relearn: Plug the harness back into the IAT sensor. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the engine and let it idle for 10-15 minutes without touching the gas pedal. This allows the Dodge ECU to adjust to the increased airflow without throwing a check engine light.
