Feel the instant surge of power and hear the raw rumble your Dodge Dakota was always meant to deliver. Say goodbye to sluggish throttle response and unleash the true potential of your truck’s legendary 4.7L V8.
Performance Cold Air Intake for Dodge Dakota (2000-2002) 4.7L V8 Engine
The factory air box and restrictive paper filter in your 2000-2002 Dodge Dakota’s 4.7L V8 engine are significant bottlenecks, choking off vital airflow and preventing your truck from breathing freely. This common restriction limits horsepower, torque, and overall engine efficiency, leaving a substantial amount of performance on the table.
This high-velocity cold air intake system specifically addresses these limitations by replacing the stock components with a streamlined, high-flow induction path. Engineered to maximize the 4.7L V8 platform, it delivers a larger volume of oxygen-rich air with significantly less effort, translating directly into crisper throttle response, more energetic combustion, and enhanced acceleration for both demanding work and confident highway cruising.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Enhanced Power Output: Optimizes your engine’s air-to-fuel ratio, providing a noticeable boost in both horsepower and torque, up to 10% for improved performance.
- High-Volume Induction: Replaces narrow factory ducting with a wide, mandrel-bent T304 aluminum pathway to satisfy your 4.7L V8’s massive demand for air during heavy work.
- Authoritative Sound Profile: Transforms your truck’s acoustic character, granting your V8 a deeper, more aggressive, resonant intake roar under acceleration, matching its rugged personality.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time for your ["2000","2001","2002"] ["Dodge"] ["Dakota"] ["4.7L"]
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - Beginner friendly, but requires finesse with aging factory plastics. Basic hand tools required.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm deep socket and ratchet (Battery terminal, OEM resonator bolts, heat shield mounting)
- 8mm nut driver (Hose clamps — much safer than a flathead that can slip and gouge silicone)
- Panel pop tool (For prying stubborn harness clips without snapping them)
- Silicone spray or dielectric grease (Critical for lubricating the factory O-ring during sensor transfer)
The factory ["2000","2001","2002"] ["Dodge"] ["Dakota"] ["4.7L"] intake relies on an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor embedded right in the plastic resonator "hat." After 20+ years of under-hood heat cycling, this sensor body is incredibly brittle. Do not pry it with a screwdriver! Gently twist back and forth while pulling to release it. If you snap the tip off into the manifold, you’ll be tearing the top end apart to fish out plastic bits to avoid catastrophic engine damage.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your ["2000","2001","2002"] ["Dodge"] ["Dakota"] ["4.7L"]
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench or socket. This prevents accidental shorts and forces the ECU to reset its long-term fuel trims.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor plugged into the factory resonator box (the massive black plastic hat sitting directly over the throttle body). Push the red locking tab back, press the release clip, and disconnect the harness. Use your Panel pop tool to free the wiring harness from the plastic intake retaining clips.
- Remove the Crankcase Breather: Pull the factory rubber PCV/crankcase breather hose off the side nipple of the OEM intake tube.
- Loosen the Throttle Body Clamps: Grab your 8mm nut driver and loosen the band clamp securing the resonator hat to the throttle body, as well as the clamp attaching the tube to the factory airbox.
- Extract the Factory Assembly: Use your 10mm socket to remove the two mounting bolts holding the resonator hat to the engine block. Wiggle the entire restrictive OEM airbox and resonator assembly loose and lift it completely out of the engine bay.
- Salvage the IAT Sensor: With the OEM assembly on your workbench, carefully twist and pull the fragile IAT sensor out of the factory plastic. Set it safely aside.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Dodge Dakota (2000-2002) 4.7L V8 Engine Blue
- Prep the Throttle Body: Wipe any carbon ring buildup off the throttle body lip. Slide the new blue silicone step-down coupler over the throttle body and hand-tighten the lower band clamp using your 8mm nut driver. Do not over-torque this clamp, or you risk warping the aluminum throttle body bore.
- Install the Heat Shield: Assemble the aftermarket metal heat shield to block off the dreaded Mopar heat soak. Drop it into the factory lower airbox location and secure it using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket.
- Transfer the IAT Sensor: Locate the pre-drilled hole and rubber grommet in your new blue intake tube. Apply a tiny drop of Silicone spray to the IAT sensor O-ring, and firmly but gently push it into the rubber grommet until it seats flush.
- Route the Tube and Breather: Slide the main intake tube into the throttle body silicone coupler. Pass the other end through the heat shield and attach the high-flow blue cone filter. Reconnect the crankcase breather hose to the welded nipple on the new tube. Tighten all remaining hose clamps down snugly with your 8mm nut driver.
- Reconnect and Relearn: Plug the IAT sensor wiring harness back into the sensor. Reconnect your negative battery terminal with your 10mm socket. Jump in the driver’s seat and turn the key. On the first startup, do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle so the ECU can adapt to the increased airflow volume and establish a new baseline without triggering a Check Engine Light (CEL).
