  • 10mm deep socket and ratchet (for the battery terminal and factory airbox mounting bolt)
  • 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver (for throttle body and intake hose clamps)

  • Silicone spray lubricant or clean engine oil (to safely seat sensors without tearing grommets)

Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The biggest headache on the 3.6L Pentastar platform is the factory Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. The plastic tip and locking tabs become incredibly brittle after years of engine heat cycling. If you try to yank it straight out of the factory tube, you will snap the tip off, throwing an immediate Check Engine Light and stranding your Charger in the driveway. Gently twist it 90 degrees counter-clockwise to unlock it, wiggle it patiently, and ease it out.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2011-2021 Dodge Charger 3.6L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket to prevent check engine lights and reset the ECU. Remember, the Charger’s battery is located beneath the load floor in the trunk.

  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Take your factory IAT sensor and carefully twist and push it into the new Red intake tube’s rubber grommet. Pro-tip: Apply a single drop of silicone spray or clean oil on the O-ring so it slides in perfectly without tearing the new grommet.
  4. Mount the Intake Tube and Filter: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the throttle body and the heat shield adapter. Insert the new Red Cold Air Intake tube into both couplers. Next, slip the high-flow Red cone filter onto the adapter inside the heat shield compartment. Tighten all band clamps completely using your 8mm socket.
  5. Reconnect Hoses and Power: Push the factory PCV breather hose onto the machined fitting on the new intake tube. Plug the IAT sensor harness back in until you hear a solid click. Reconnect your negative battery terminal in the trunk with your 10mm socket. CRITICAL FINAL STEP: On the first startup, do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds; allow the engine to idle so the ECU can calibrate to the massive increase in airflow.
