High-Velocity Air Induction for 2008-2010 Dodge Challenger Hemi V8

Who It’s For: This system is the essential first step for Mopar enthusiasts looking to wake up the 2008-2010 Challenger R/T and SRT-8 models equipped with the legendary Hemi V8.

The Problem: The factory air box in these early Challengers was designed to prioritize silence and cost over raw airflow. The accordion-style plastic tubing and restrictive paper filters create massive turbulence and trap heat, which is the natural enemy of the Hemi V8 engine’s efficiency and top-end power.

The Solution: This intake utilizes T304 lightweight aluminum piping to provide a smooth, mandrel-bent path for oxygen to reach the throttle body. By reducing intake temperatures and increasing the volume of air available, we fix the factory bottleneck, allowing your Challenger to finally sound and perform like a true muscle car.

Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade

  • Enhanced Power Band: Real-world gains of up to 10% in horsepower and torque by optimizing the air-to-fuel ratio through increased oxygen density.
  • T304 Aluminum Construction: Unlike cheap plastic kits, our aluminum piping dissipates heat faster and provides a permanent, corrosion-resistant solution for the engine bay.
  • 60-Minute Bolt-On: Engineered for a perfect fit with both automatic and manual transmissions; no cutting or drilling required for a clean, factory-plus look.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 30-45 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - A straightforward driveway job for the weekend warrior, requiring only basic hand tools.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm Socket & Ratchet (For the trunk-mounted battery and factory airbox mounting bolt)
  • 8mm Nut Driver or Socket (For the factory and aftermarket hose clamps)
  • Flathead Screwdriver (For gentle prying on clips)
  • Trim Removal Tool / Panel Popper (To assist with the breather hose and wiring harness clips)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 2008-2010 Hemi engines utilize a Speed-Density system, meaning they rely entirely on the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor instead of a MAF. This plastic sensor is notoriously fragile. Do not yank it out of the factory tube. Carefully twist counter-clockwise and pull straight out. If the factory O-ring feels stiff, wipe a single drop of clean motor oil on it before seating it into your new intake to prevent tearing. Additionally, be gentle with the PCV breather hose; the factory rubber hardens over time and is highly prone to cracking on the 5.7L and 6.1L platforms.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Head to the trunk and disconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket. This is a mandatory first step to reset the fuel trims and prevent a Check Engine Light (CEL) on your 2008-2010 Dodge Challenger 5.7L 6.1L.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor inserted into the factory air intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press the release clip, and carefully unplug the wiring harness without forcing it.
  3. Disconnect the Breather Hose: Follow the PCV breather hose from the engine block to the factory airbox. Gently pull the hose off the airbox nipple. If it’s seized from engine heat, carefully use a flathead screwdriver or panel popper to walk it off the plastic lip.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Use your 8mm socket or nut driver to loosen the factory hose clamp securing the OEM intake tube to the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Factory Airbox: Remove the single 10mm bolt securing the factory airbox to the core support. Once unbolted, grab the entire airbox assembly and pull firmly upward to pop it out of the lower rubber mounting grommets. Remove the entire assembly from the engine bay.
  6. Remove and Save the IAT Sensor: Carefully twist the factory IAT sensor out of the OEM tube. Set it somewhere safe on your workbench—you will transfer this critical sensor to the new intake.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  1. Assemble the Heat Shield: Put together the aftermarket heat shield according to the manufacturer specs. Firmly press the supplied rubber edge trim along the top rim to seal it against the Challenger’s hood; this is essential to block out notorious Hemi heat soak. Secure the shield into the factory mounting points using your 10mm socket.
  2. Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the throttle body. Slide two hose clamps loosely over the coupler, then tighten the throttle body side down snugly using your 8mm nut driver.
  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Take the factory IAT sensor you set aside. Insert the provided rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new intake tube. Lubricate the sensor’s O-ring with a drop of clean motor oil, and gently push and twist it into the new tube until fully seated.
  4. Mount the Intake Tube & Filter: Slide the new intake tube into the throttle body coupler. Attach the high-flow air filter to the end of the tube inside the heat shield. Adjust for clearance, then tighten all remaining hose clamps down tight using your 8mm nut driver.
  5. Reconnect Hoses and Harness: Push the factory PCV breather hose onto the new intake tube’s nipple. Finally, plug the IAT sensor wiring harness back in and click the red locking tab forward to secure it.
  6. The Initial Startup: Reconnect your negative battery terminal in the trunk with your 10mm socket. Start the vehicle. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the car idle so the ECU can properly complete its relearn process and adjust the fuel trims to the increased airflow.
