Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm deep socket, extension, & ratchet (for battery and airbox mounting bolts)
  • 8mm deep socket or nut driver (for worm-gear hose clamps)
  • Flathead screwdriver (for prying factory retaining clips)
  • Panel popper tool (to release the factory wire harness anchor)
  • Silicone spray or soapy water (for seating rubber couplers and IAT grommet)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The Pentastar V6 uses a twist-to-lock Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. It is notoriously fragile. DO NOT pull it straight out of the factory tube, or you will snap the plastic cage off the tip. Gently push in, twist counter-clockwise 45 degrees, and carefully wiggle it free. Also, check the lower chassis pins when removing the factory airbox—often, the factory rubber mounting grommets pull out with the box. Pop them off the old box and reinstall them into the chassis before dropping your new aftermarket heat shield in.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket to prevent accidental shorts and to clear the ECU memory for the new 2011-2023 Dodge Chrysler Challenger Charger 300 3.6L airflow parameters.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press the release button, and disconnect the harness. Use a panel popper to free the harness wire tie anchor from the side of the plastic intake tube.
  3. Remove the CCV Hose: Disconnect the factory crankcase ventilation (CCV) hose from the main intake resonator. Older 3.6L engines have plastic hoses that get heat-cycled and brittle over time, so pull gently to avoid cracking the hard plastic line.
  4. Loosen the Clamps: Use your 8mm socket to loosen the factory hose clamp at the throttle body and the clamp at the airbox lid.
  5. Extract the Factory System: Remove the single 10mm bolt securing the factory airbox to the front core support. Lift the entire airbox and intake tube assembly straight up to pop it out of the lower rubber chassis grommets, and pull it completely out of the engine bay.
  6. Harvest the IAT Sensor: With the factory tube resting on your workbench, carefully twist the IAT sensor counter-clockwise and extract it. Set it somewhere completely safe where it won’t roll off the table.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake - Black

  1. Prep the Heat Shield: Assemble the aftermarket heat shield and install the provided rubber edge trim. Drop it into the engine bay, ensuring the bottom posts seat perfectly into those factory rubber chassis grommets. Secure the top mounting point using the original 10mm bolt.
  2. Install the Couplers: Slide the provided silicone step-coupler onto your throttle body and the straight coupler onto the new filter adapter mounted in the heat shield. Loosely install the provided hose clamps with your 8mm nut driver.
  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Install the provided rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on the new black intake tube. Apply a tiny drop of silicone spray or soapy water to the inside of the grommet, then firmly but gently push the factory IAT sensor into place. Ensure the sensor tip is fully exposed inside the airflow path.
  4. Mount the Tube & Filter: Slide the new intake tube into the throttle body coupler, then into the heat shield coupler. Reconnect the factory CCV breather hose to the new aluminum fitting on the side of the tube. Once everything is aligned perfectly without binding, tighten down all clamps firmly with your 8mm socket.
  5. Reconnect & Relearn: Plug the IAT sensor harness back in and lock the red safety tab. Secure your high-flow air filter to the heat shield adapter. Finally, reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm socket. On the first startup, turn the key and DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle entirely on its own so the ECU can adapt to the massive new volume of cold air.
