Performance Cold Air Intake System for 2011–2023 Dodge Charger/Challenger & Chrysler 300 – 3.6L V6 Pentastar

Unlock the True Potential of Your Modern Muscle Car's V6 Powerplant

The 3.6L Pentastar engine delivers an impressive 305 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, with 90% of its torque available from 1,800 to 6,350 RPM —providing real-world punch across a remarkably broad powerband. This engine actually exceeds the performance of small blocks from the first muscle car era , and it benefited from more than 45,000 hours of computer analysis before the first block was cast . Yet despite this engineering excellence, the factory air intake system holds back what this engine can truly deliver.

Our high-flow cold air intake system is specifically engineered to eliminate that restriction. By replacing the narrow factory ducting and restrictive air box with a streamlined, high-flow induction path, this system allows your Pentastar V6 to draw in cooler, denser air with minimal effort. The result is sharper throttle response, improved acceleration, and a more aggressive induction sound that matches the athletic character of your Charger, Challenger, or 300.

Why Your Pentastar V6 Deserves This Upgrade

The 3.6L Pentastar was designed with high-flow intake and exhaust ports combined with dual independent cam phasing , creating an exceptionally flat torque curve with high specific power output. However, stock automatic 3.6 Pentastar models typically produce around 255 wheel horsepower—meaning there's parasitic power loss between the flywheel and rear wheels that proper breathing can help recover.

While true horsepower gains from bolt-ons alone are modest, you can regain parasitic horsepower lost from the flywheel to the rear wheels by reducing intake restriction. This cold air intake is the foundational upgrade that improves breathing efficiency and sets the stage for future modifications like throttle bodies, exhaust systems, and tuning—enthusiasts report that 400+ horsepower is achievable with the right combination of parts .

Key Features

  • Unrestricted High-Flow Design: Replaces narrow factory ducting with a streamlined pathway that satisfies the Pentastar's demand for air across its entire 1,800-6,350 RPM torque band.
  • Instant Throttle Response: Eliminates the restrictive "lag" of the stock intake for more immediate power delivery and sharper acceleration off the line.
  • Optimized Combustion: Delivers cooler, oxygen-rich air for improved combustion efficiency—especially beneficial given the Pentastar's advanced dual cam phasing system.
  • Aggressive Induction Sound: Transforms the V6's acoustic character with a powerful, sporty intake growl that announces your performance intentions.
  • Premium Construction: Built with heat-resistant materials designed to maintain consistent performance during spirited driving or hot weather conditions.
  • Foundation for Future Builds: The perfect starting point before adding a larger throttle body, performance tune, or forced induction system.

Performance Benefits You'll Experience

  • Recovered Power: Reduce parasitic losses and help your engine breathe closer to its rated 305 horsepower.
  • Better Mid-Range Pull: Since 90% of torque is available between 1,800-6,350 RPM , improved airflow in this range means stronger passing power and highway merges.
  • Improved Throttle Sensitivity: Sharper pedal response eliminates the "laggy" feeling common with restrictive factory systems.
  • Enhanced Sound Character: A deeper, more muscular intake note that better matches the aggressive styling of your Charger or Challenger.
  • Cost-Effective Maintenance: Washable, reusable filter eliminates the need for frequent paper filter replacements—saving money over the vehicle's lifetime.

Installation Tip: Disconnect the NEGATIVE GROUND CABLE from your battery before starting installation. After completing the install, keep the cable disconnected for at least 60 seconds to allow the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to reset and adapt to the increased airflow. This reset optimizes performance gains and prevents potential check engine light errors. Always ensure the engine is completely cool before beginning work.

Perfect For:

  • Daily drivers seeking improved throttle response and efficiency
  • V6 enthusiasts who want more aggressive sound without sacrificing reliability
  • Budget-conscious builders starting their performance journey—supercharging a V6 can create a seriously fast car for less money than stepping up to a V8 model
  • Owners planning future upgrades like larger throttle bodies (78mm offers 35% more airflow) , exhaust systems, or tuning

Build Your Performance Package

This cold air intake is the essential first step in unlocking your Pentastar's potential. Pair it with these complementary upgrades for maximum results:

  • Stage 1: Cold Air Intake + Cat-Back Exhaust (recovers parasitic losses, improves sound)
  • Stage 2: Add Performance Tune (optimizes air-fuel ratios for 15-20 HP gains at the flywheel)
  • Stage 3: Upgraded Throttle Body + Intake Manifold (further reduces restriction)
  • Stage 4: Forced Induction—supercharger systems can achieve 425+ wheel horsepower and 360+ lb-ft of torque, rivaling or exceeding 5.7L HEMI performance

The Bottom Line: While the 3.6L Pentastar already delivers impressive performance for a naturally aspirated V6, this cold air intake helps it breathe properly and recover lost power. It's the smart, affordable first step that improves daily drivability while establishing a solid foundation for future performance builds. Whether you keep it mild or go wild with boost later, better breathing starts here.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Beginner friendly. No lifting or jack stands required.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm Socket & Ratchet (Battery terminal, stock airbox bolt)
  • 8mm Socket or Flathead Screwdriver (Hose clamps)
  • Trim Removal Tool or Panel Popper (Releasing harness clips)
  • Sensor Safe Lubricant or Silicone Spray (For the IAT grommet)
  • Pliers (For the crankcase breather hose clamp, if equipped)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor on the 3.6L Pentastar is notorious for two things: the locking tab on the wire harness is brittle and snaps if you look at it wrong, and the sensor element itself is fragile. When transferring the sensor to the new tube, do not touch the exposed bulb with your bare hands (oils damage it). Use a dab of silicone spray on the new rubber grommet; if you force the dry sensor in, you will snap it.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Intake

This guide covers the removal of the stock airbox on the 2011-2023 Dodge Challenger, Charger, and Chrysler 300 (3.6L).

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Head to the trunk. Lift the floor cover and use a **10mm socket** to disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal. This resets the ECU fuel trims and prevents a Check Engine Light.
  2. Unlock the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the intake tube near the throttle body. Slide the red locking tab back, squeeze the release tab, and gently pull the harness plug off. If the harness is anchored to the tube with a plastic clip, use a **panel popper** to pry it loose without cutting the wire.
  3. Disconnect the Breather Hose: Locate the crankcase breather hose connected to the factory air box (usually on the driver’s side edge). Carefully pull it off. If it is stuck, twist it gently to break the seal. Do not yank, or you risk cracking the plastic nipple on the valve cover.
  4. Loosen the Clamps: Use an **8mm socket** or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body.
  5. Remove the Airbox: Remove the single **10mm bolt** securing the factory airbox housing to the fender well (save this bolt; you will likely reuse it). Lift the entire factory intake assembly straight up and out of the engine bay. The bottom relies on friction grommets, so give it a firm tug.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

Installation procedure for the 2011-2023 3.6L Pentastar platform.

  1. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Carefully twist the IAT sensor counter-clockwise to unlock it from the factory tube. Insert the new rubber grommet into your new intake tube. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the grommet, then gently push and twist the sensor into place until fully seated.
  2. Install the Heat Shield: Seat the new heat shield into the factory mounting points. Secure it using the original **10mm bolt** you removed in Phase 1 (or the provided hardware). Ensure it is tight so it doesn’t rattle against the chassis.
  3. Mount the Couplers: Slide the silicone coupler onto the throttle body and tighten the **hose clamp** snug using an **8mm socket**. Slide the second clamp loosely onto the other end of the coupler.
  4. Install the Tube & Filter: Lower the new intake tube into position. Slide it into the throttle body coupler first, then align it with the heat shield. Install the air filter onto the end of the tube and tighten the **8mm clamp**. Connect the crankcase breather hose to the new nipple on the intake tube.
  5. Reconnect & Start Up: Plug the IAT harness back into the sensor. Listen for the "click" and push the red locking tab forward. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your **10mm wrench**. Crucial: Start the engine and let it idle for 3-5 minutes without touching the gas pedal. This allows the ECU to relearn the new airflow parameters for the 3.6L engine.
