Remember that feeling when you first hit the gas in your Sebring, and it just didn’t quite *respond* the way you hoped? It’s frustrating to know there’s more power trapped under the hood, waiting to be set free.
Performance Cold Air Intake for Chrysler Sebring Coupe (1995-2000) 2.0L & 2.5L Engines
From the factory, your Chrysler Sebring Coupe’s intake system was designed with compromise in mind: primarily noise reduction and ease of manufacturing. This often means a convoluted air path, restrictive resonators, and a smaller filter box that chokes your 2.0L L4 or 2.5L V6 engine, especially when you ask for real power at higher RPMs.
This cold air intake system cuts out all that restriction, giving your Sebring a direct, smooth shot of colder, denser air. I’ve seen firsthand how much even a modest engine like the Mitsubishi-sourced 6G72 (2.5L) or 4G63 (2.0L) can wake up with proper breathing, making those daily drives or spirited weekend runs feel so much more alive. You’ll feel that immediate boost in throttle response and a stronger pull through the RPMs – it’s not just numbers, it’s a tangible difference in how the car drives.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Sharper Throttle Response: Eliminates the lag you feel with the stock setup, giving you a more immediate connection between the gas pedal and engine RPMs.
- Real-World Horsepower & Torque Gains: By feeding your engine a steady diet of colder, denser air, this intake translates directly into a measurable bump in horsepower and torque where you actually use it – not just peak numbers, but a stronger pull off the line and through the mid-range.
- Improved Engine Efficiency: Optimized airflow means the engine can ‘breathe’ easier, potentially leading to better fuel economy under normal driving conditions because it’s not working as hard.
- Aggressive Intake Sound: Beyond performance, you’ll get that satisfying, deeper growl from under the hood when you open up the throttle – a sound that truly matches the car’s sporty character.
- Durable T-304 Aluminum Construction: Built to last with lightweight T-304 aluminum piping, ensuring consistent performance and resistance to engine bay heat soak.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward driveway bolt-on. The hardest part is wrestling the factory resonator out of the fender well.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm socket and ratchet with a 6-inch extension
- 8mm nut driver or deep socket (for hose clamps)
- Flathead screwdriver (for prying stubborn clips)
- Panel popper tool (to remove plastic splash shield rivets)
- Needle-nose pliers (for factory spring clamps on breather hoses)
The 1995-2000 Chrysler Sebring 2.0L 2.5L platform (shared with the DSM/Avenger community) is notorious for two things: brittle plastic and idle surge. The factory corrugated accordion intake tube frequently cracks in the folds, sucking in unmetered air and causing idle issues. When you remove this factory tube, be hyper-aware of the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAS) or Intake Air Temp (IAT) sensor connector. The locking tab has been heat-cycling since the late 90s. Push firmly but gently to unclip it, or you will snap the plastic tab right off.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. This prevents check engine lights and forces the ECU to clear its old fuel trims.
- Unplug the Sensors: Locate the MAS/IAT sensor on the intake path. Carefully depress the locking tab and pull the connector free. Tuck the wiring harness safely out of the way.
- Detach the PCV Breather: Use your needle-nose pliers to squeeze the spring clamp on the factory PCV breather hose attached to the intake tube, and slide it back. Twist the hose gently to break the seal and pull it off.
- Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Take your 8mm nut driver or a flathead screwdriver and loosen the hose clamp securing the rubber intake tube to the throttle body.
- Evict the Factory Airbox & Resonator: Grab your 10mm socket and extension to remove the mounting bolts holding the upper airbox to the chassis. The real fight is the lower resonator box hidden down inside the fender well. You may need to use a panel popper tool to pull back the plastic inner fender liner to unbolt and wrestle the resonator out of the cavity.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chrysler Sebring Coupe LX LXi (1995-2000) 2.0L 2.5L Engines
- Prep the Throttle Body: Wipe down the throttle body lip with a clean rag. Slide the new silicone transition coupler onto the throttle body and loosely slip two clamps over it.
- Transfer the Sensor Protocol: Very carefully remove the MAS or IAT sensor from your factory airbox setup. Transfer the sensor into the machined flange or grommet on your new Cold Air Intake piping. Do not overtighten the mounting screws; snug is sufficient to prevent vacuum leaks without cracking the original sensor housing.
- Route the New Piping: Guide the new intake pipe down into the fender well void where the old restrictive resonator used to live. Seat the upper end into the silicone coupler at the throttle body.
- Lock Down the Plumbing: Align the pipe so it isn’t rubbing against any metal chassis edges or brake lines. Once positioned perfectly, tighten all hose clamps down securely using your 8mm nut driver. Secure any mounting brackets to the chassis using your 10mm socket.
- Reconnect Vital Lines: Push the PCV breather hose onto the welded bung on the new intake pipe and secure it. Plug the sensor wiring harness back in until you hear a satisfying click.
- The ECU Relearn Startup: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but do not touch the gas pedal for exactly 20 seconds. The ECU needs this time to adapt to the massive increase in airflow and properly set its base idle without driver interference. Check for any whistling sounds indicating a vacuum leak.
