The Chrysler LH platform changed the game with its "Cab-Forward" design, pushing the wheels out to the corners and maximizing interior space. But while the 3.5L V6 was a potent powerplant for its time, it was choked down by an induction system designed for silent luxury cruising rather than performance. It’s time to let that SOHC V6 actually breathe.
Performance Short Ram Air Intake System for Chrysler LHS (3.5L SOHC V6)
If you are keeping a 1994-2001 Chrysler LHS on the road, you appreciate the unique blend of American luxury and engineering that defined the 90s Mopar renaissance. Whether you have the first-generation wedge shape or the smoother second-generation, the heart of the beast is the 3.5L V6. In stock form, this engine draws air through a restrictive, baffled plastic box buried in the fender. This setup was great for keeping the car whisper-quiet for the country club set, but it robs the engine of the air velocity needed for sharp throttle response, especially in the low-to-mid RPM range.
This "Ultimate Performance" Short Ram Air Intake Kit replaces that aging factory plumbing with a mandrel-bent T-304 aluminum tube finished in polished chrome. By smoothing out the intake path and removing the factory baffles, you allow the engine to pull in a larger volume of air with less resistance. This is critical for the 3.5L, which thrives on airflow. The result is a noticeable improvement in acceleration and a reduction in the "slushy" feeling often associated with the automatic transmissions of this era. You get instant response when you tap the pedal.
Aesthetically, the chrome finish pops against the black plastics of the LH engine bay, giving it a show-ready appearance. Acoustically, this intake transforms the driving experience. At idle and cruise, it remains civilized, but under wide-open throttle, it produces an intense, deep sporty sound that reminds you this isn't just a sedate sedan. Paired with a high-flow, washable black conical filter, this system is a one-time investment that eliminates the need for disposable paper filters forever.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Revitalized Throttle Response: Improves air velocity to boost low and mid-range RPM acceleration, helping the heavy LHS get moving faster.
- T-304 Chrome Aluminum: Lightweight, corrosion-resistant piping with a mirror-polished finish adds a custom look to the engine bay.
- Aggressive Induction Tone: Unlocks a deep, sporty sound under hard acceleration by bypassing factory silencers.
- Dyno-Proven Gains: Engineered to increase horsepower and torque by 8-10% through optimized airflow dynamics.
- Sustainable Filtration: Includes a high-quality washable and reusable black cone filter—clean it, re-oil it, and keep driving.

Installation Notes
This kit is designed to be a direct bolt-on upgrade using simple hand tools (screwdrivers and socket wrenches). All necessary mounting accessories are included. Technical Requirement: You must disconnect the negative battery terminal before installation and leave it off for a few minutes. This resets the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), allowing the computer to re-learn fuel trims for the increased airflow. Failure to do this may prevent the vehicle from realizing the full power gains immediately.

The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - The intake swap is a straightforward bolt-on, but wrestling the bulky factory Chrysler resonator out of the passenger fender well requires a bit of patience and wiggling.
Tools You Will Need
- 15mm deep socket (For the remote battery jump post)
- 10mm and 8mm deep sockets with a ratchet and 6-inch extension
- 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver
- Panel popper tool
- Silicone spray lubricant
The Chrysler LH platform (LHS, 300M, Concorde, Intrepid) has a notoriously brittle plastic crankcase breather hose that connects to the factory intake tube. It will turn to glass after 100k miles and snap if you bend it aggressively. Also, NEVER twist the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor by its wiring harness connector when removing it; grip the plastic base of the sensor body. If you tear those old wires, you’ll be chasing idle surges all weekend.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Chrysler Intake
- Disconnect the Battery: The Chrysler LHS battery is hidden inside the passenger wheel well. Always start by disconnecting the negative remote jump post on the passenger side strut tower using a 15mm deep socket to prevent check engine lights and short circuits.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temperature sensor on the side of the factory corrugated rubber tube. Depress the plastic locking tab and slide the harness off. Tuck it safely out of the way.
- Loosen the Clamps: Use your 8mm nut driver to loosen the hose clamps securing the factory intake tube to the 3.5L throttle body and the airbox lid.
- Disconnect the Breather: Carefully unplug the PCV breather hose from the side of the intake tube. If it’s fused on, use a panel popper to gently pry the rubber neck backward without snapping the brittle plastic line. Remove the factory rubber tube.
- Extract the Airbox and Resonator: Unclip and remove the upper airbox lid. Next, use a 10mm socket and extension to remove the retaining bolt holding the lower airbox housing to the core support. Pull the entire lower housing and the attached "snorkel" resonator firmly up and out of the fender cavity.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chrysler LHS
- Transfer the IAT Sensor: Gently twist and pull the factory IAT sensor out of the OEM rubber tube. Spritz the rubber grommet on your new intake pipe with silicone spray, then push the IAT sensor in until fully seated. Do not use tools to pry on the sensor body.
- Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone reducer onto the 3.5L throttle body. Slip two new hose clamps over it, and tighten the throttle body side clamp firmly using an 8mm socket.
- Mount the Intake Tube: Guide the new aluminum intake pipe into the throttle body coupler. Reconnect the factory PCV breather hose to the welded bung on the new pipe, securing it with the provided clamp. Tighten the remaining coupler clamp with your 8mm socket.
- Secure the Heat Shield and Filter: Drop the new heat shield into the space where the factory lower airbox sat, bolting it down into the OEM mounting hole using a 10mm socket. Slide the cone filter onto the end of the intake pipe and lock it down with an 8mm nut driver. Reconnect the IAT wiring harness until it clicks.
- ECU Calibration Protocol: Reconnect the remote negative battery post on the strut tower. Turn the key to the ON position, then start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for exactly 20 seconds. This gives the Chrysler ECU time to adapt its idle air curves to the new, unrestricted airflow dynamics.
