Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic hand tools and patience with brittle factory plastics.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm Wrench & Socket (For the battery terminal and ground wires)
- 8mm Socket or 5/16 Nut Driver (For throttle body and intake hose clamps)
- 13mm Socket with Extension (For the factory airbox mounting bolt)
- Flathead Screwdriver & Panel Popper (For IAT sensor clips and push pins)
- Silicone Spray or Soapy Water (To lubricate grommets during installation)
The LX platform forums are filled with DIYers who broke their IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor. On these Gen 3 Hemis, the factory plastic gets extremely brittle from heat soak. Do not yank the sensor! Gently twist it counter-clockwise and pull straight out. If you snap the plastic locking tab, you’ll be stuck walking to the parts store and fighting a massive vacuum leak.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2005-2010 Chrysler 300 5.7L 6.1L
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal in the trunk using your 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to clear old airflow parameters.
- Remove the Engine Cover: Grab the factory Hemi engine cover by the front edges and pull straight up to release it from the ball studs. Set it aside.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Carefully depress the locking tab with your thumb (or a flathead if it’s stubborn) and pull the connector off. Do not pull by the wires. Gently twist the sensor out of the factory tube and set it somewhere safe.
- Disconnect the Breather Hose: Pull the factory crankcase PCV breather hose off the stock airbox. Older LX platform rubber can be stiff—use a gentle twisting motion to avoid tearing it.
- Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Use your 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamp securing the factory intake tube to the throttle body.
- Remove the Factory Airbox: Locate the 13mm bolt securing the factory airbox to the front core support. Remove it. Grab the entire factory airbox assembly and pull straight up to pop it out of the lower rubber mounting grommets.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chrysler 300 C Sedan & SRT-8 Hemi
- Assemble the Heat Shield: Build the aftermarket heat shield using the supplied hardware. Press the provided rubber edge trim securely around the top edges of the shield—this is critical to seal against the hood and block out Hemi engine bay heat soak.
- Mount the Heat Shield: Drop the new shield into the factory location, pressing its mounting pegs firmly into the OEM lower rubber grommets. Secure it to the core support using the factory 13mm bolt you removed earlier.
- Install Couplers and Tube: Slide the provided silicone coupler onto your throttle body and snug the clamp down slightly with your 8mm socket. Insert the new intake tube into the coupler.
- Transfer the IAT Sensor: Push the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new intake tube. Apply a single drop of soapy water to your factory IAT sensor and gently press it into the grommet until fully seated. Reconnect the factory wiring harness to the sensor.
- Final Assembly: Attach the new high-flow air filter to the end of the intake tube. Reconnect the crankcase breather hose to the fitting on the new tube. Ensure everything is aligned perfectly, then crank down all remaining clamps securely with your 8mm socket.
- The Relearn Protocol: Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle and let it idle. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. This idle period forces the ECU to read the new IAT sensor data and adjust to the increased airflow without triggering a Check Engine Light.
