Tired of your 2.7L V6 feeling a little breathless and sluggish off the line? It’s a common complaint with these motors, and a better intake is often the first, most noticeable upgrade you can make to breathe some life into it.
Performance Cold Air Intake for Chrysler 300 Base/LX & Dodge Charger Base/SE Magnum SE (2.7L V6)
Let’s be honest, the factory air intake on your 2005-2010 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, or Magnum with the 2.7L V6 wasn’t designed for performance. It was engineered for silence and cost-effectiveness, meaning a restrictive airbox and corrugated intake tube that chokes off airflow to your engine. That dull, muted throttle response and the feeling like your V6 is struggling to draw a full breath? That’s largely thanks to that OEM setup.
This Cold Air Intake system is purpose-built to address those restrictions head-on. By replacing the convoluted stock piping with a smooth, mandrel-bent T-304 lightweight aluminum tube and an open-element, high-flow filter, you’re allowing your 2.7L V6 to finally inhale properly. More cool, dense air means a more efficient burn, and that translates directly into better throttle response and a noticeable boost in everyday driving performance without any other modifications.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Enhanced Throttle Response: Trust me, you’ll feel the difference immediately. That laggy sensation when you press the pedal will be gone, replaced with a snappier, more direct connection to the engine. It makes merging or passing on the highway feel much more confident.
- Real-World Power Gains: While the 2.7L isn’t a Hemi, freeing up its breathing capacity means more available horsepower and torque where you use it most – in the low to mid-range. You’ll notice the engine pulls harder and smoother, especially around town.
- Improved Engine Sound: Say goodbye to that muffled factory drone. With this open-induction system, you’ll get a satisfying, aggressive growl from your V6 under acceleration. It’s not obnoxious, just a sportier tone that actually makes driving more engaging.
- Superior Durability: Crafted from lightweight T-304 aluminum, this intake pipe isn’t just about airflow; it’s built to last. It resists corrosion and handles engine bay temperatures better than plastic, ensuring reliability for years to come.
- Potential Fuel Efficiency: When an engine breathes easier and runs more efficiently, it often doesn’t have to work as hard. While results vary based on driving style, many drivers report a slight bump in fuel economy, especially on the highway.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward bolt-on, but requires patience when handling old plastics on the LX chassis.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm socket & ratchet (for airbox bolts and the trunk-mounted battery)
- 8mm socket or nut driver (for worm-gear hose clamps)
- Flathead screwdriver or panel popper (for the sensor harness clip)
- Pliers (for factory breather hose spring clamps)
- Silicone spray lubricant (for safe sensor transfer)
The biggest headache on the 2005-2010 Dodge Chrysler Charger Magnum 300 2.7L is the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. It sits right in the factory intake tube. The plastic twist-lock tab and O-ring become extremely brittle from years of heat cycling. If you rip the O-ring or snap the plastic probe during removal, you’ll immediately trigger a P0113 check engine code and your idle will surge. Hit the base of the sensor with silicone spray before twisting it out, and never pry it with a screwdriver. Also, watch out for the brittle factory PCV breather hose—handle it like glass.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by heading to the trunk and disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket. This prevents accidental shorts and resets the ECU to prepare it for the new airflow volume.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Depress the locking tab with your thumb (or gently use a flathead screwdriver if it’s jammed with grit) and pull the harness plug straight back.
- Remove the Breather Hose: Use pliers to squeeze the spring clamp holding the crankcase breather hose to the factory airbox. Twist the hose gently to break the seal, then pull it off.
- Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the worm-gear clamp securing the factory intake tube to the throttle body. Pull the rubber boot off the throttle body blade housing.
- Extract the Factory Airbox: Remove the single retaining bolt holding the factory airbox to the front core support using a 10mm socket. Grab the entire "silencer box" assembly and yank straight up to pop it out of the lower rubber mounting grommets.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for 2005-2010 Dodge Chrysler Charger Magnum 300 2.7L
- Assemble and Mount the Heat Shield: Install the supplied edge trim onto the new heat shield. Drop the shield into the engine bay, aligning it with the factory mounting holes. Secure it using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket.
- Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the throttle body. Slip two hose clamps over the coupler. Tighten the throttle body side down snugly with your 8mm socket, but leave the intake tube side loose for now.
- Transfer the IAT Sensor (SENSOR PROTOCOL): Carefully twist the IAT sensor counter-clockwise out of the factory tube. Lightly lubricate the O-ring with silicone spray. Gently press and twist the sensor into the new rubber grommet provided with your aftermarket intake tube. Do not force it, or the plastic tip will snap.
- Seat the Intake Tube and Filter: Guide the new intake tube through the heat shield and into the throttle body coupler. Slide the high-flow air filter onto the end of the tube. Position everything so it doesn’t rub against any AC lines or chassis metal, then lock down all remaining clamps with your 8mm socket.
- Reconnect the Breather and Battery: Push the supplied breather hose onto the intake tube fitting and the engine’s crankcase port. Reconnect the IAT sensor harness until it clicks. Finally, reconnect the battery using a 10mm socket. Crucial final step: Turn the key to the ON position, start the engine, and do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. The ECU needs this undisturbed idle time to calibrate to the new, higher-flowing air mass.
