Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the K2XX platform (EcoTec3 L83/L86 engines), the PCV quick-disconnect fittings are notoriously brittle. Do not pry at the grey locking collars with a flathead screwdriver or you will snap the internal retainers and create an unmetered air leak. Press the release tab firmly inward with your thumb while gently backing the hose off the barb. Additionally, when yanking the OEM lower airbox assembly out, pull straight upward with steady pressure so you do not tear the factory rubber isolator grommets out of the inner fender tray.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Disconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. This resets the fuel trims and prevents the ECM from throwing an immediate P0102 or P0113 fault code when the intake is disconnected.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Slide the red locking safety tab backward on the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor connector, depress the release tab, and gently pull the harness plug away from the sensor body.
  3. Disconnect PCV Breather Lines: Release the factory crankcase breather lines on both the driver and passenger sides of the OEM resonator box by depressing the quick-disconnect tabs with your fingers and pulling the lines free.
  4. Loosen OEM Intake Tube Clamps: Using a 5/16" socket or flathead screwdriver, loosen the worm-gear clamps securing the factory intake tube to the throttle body and the air cleaner housing.
  5. Remove the Resonator Chamber: Use a panel popper to free the wiring harness clipped to the underside of the massive factory "milk jug" sound resonator. Pull the intake tube assembly off the throttle body and lift it entirely out of the engine bay.
  6. Extract Factory Lower Airbox: Firmly grab the lower factory airbox and pull straight up to unseat the mounting prongs from the rubber grommets seated in the truck’s lower mounting plate.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevy Silverado GMC Sierra 1500 (2014-2019) 5.3L 6.2L V8 Engines

  1. Transfer the Factory MAF Sensor: Using a T15 Torx driver, remove the two factory screws holding the MAF sensor to the OEM airbox lid. Delicately extract the sensor without touching the exposed sensing elements. Insert the sensor into the new intake tube bung, ensuring the directional airflow arrow points toward the engine, and fasten it down using the supplied screws and a 4mm Allen wrench.
  2. Mount the Heat Shield / Airbox: Position the new intake heat shield into the factory mounting location on your 2014-2019 Chevrolet GMC Silverado Sierra 5.3L 6.2L. Align the base pins with the OEM rubber grommets and press down firmly to secure the box. Secure any auxiliary brackets using a 10mm socket.
  3. Install Throttle Body Coupler & Tube: Slide the silicone coupler onto the throttle body and loosely install the worm-gear clamps using a 5/16" socket. Insert the intake tube into the throttle body coupler and position the filter end through the heat shield opening.
  4. Reattach PCV Lines & Air Filter: Reconnect the factory crankcase ventilation lines to the barbed fittings on the new intake tube until they click firmly into place. Slide the conical performance air filter onto the velocity stack inside the heat shield and tighten the clamp with a 5/16" socket. Align the entire intake assembly for clearance away from the radiator fan shroud and tighten all coupler clamps until snug.
  5. Reconnect Sensor, Battery & Initial Startup: Plug the wiring harness back into the MAF sensor and push the red locking tab in. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds while idling to allow the EcoTec3 ECM to accurately sample the new MAF sensor frequency and calibrate baseline airflow values.
