Unlock more power from your 1999–2007 Silverado, Sierra, or GM SUV with this complete cold air intake system—engineered for 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L V8 engines to deliver cooler air, sharper throttle response, and up to 10% gains in horsepower and torque.
More Air, More Power—Built for GMT800 V8 Trucks
If you're running a GMT800-platform Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, or Escalade, you know these trucks were built to work hard. But GM designed the factory airbox for quiet operation and emission compliance—not maximum performance. That restrictive intake setup limits the volume of air your V8 can breathe, especially when you're towing, hauling, or pushing hard on the highway.
This cold air intake system changes that equation. By replacing the restrictive factory components with precision-engineered T304 aluminum piping and a high-flow performance filter, this kit delivers a larger volume of cooler, denser air directly to your engine. The result is sharper throttle response across the entire RPM range, faster acceleration, and noticeable gains in horsepower and torque—whether you're running a work-spec 4.8L or a performance-oriented 6.0L.
Key Features & Performance Benefits
- Proven Power Gains: Delivers up to 10% increase in horsepower and torque for measurably stronger acceleration and towing performance.
- T304 Aluminum Construction: Lightweight, corrosion-resistant piping provides superior heat management and long-term durability in harsh engine bay conditions.
- Optimized Airflow Design: Engineered intake path eliminates factory restrictions, allowing your V8 to breathe freely and perform at its best.
- Improved Fuel Efficiency: Better air-to-fuel ratio optimization can lead to modest MPG improvements during highway cruising.
- Sharper Throttle Response: Increased airflow means more immediate power delivery when you press the accelerator.
- High-Performance Filtration: Advanced filter media captures contaminants while flowing maximum air to protect engine internals without sacrificing power.

Installation Tips
Important: Disconnect your battery's negative terminal before beginning installation and leave it disconnected for at least 60 seconds after completion. This allows your engine's computer (PCM) to reset and learn the new airflow parameters for optimal performance. Always perform installation on a completely cool engine to ensure safety.
Most DIY-capable truck owners can complete installation in about an hour with basic hand tools. Professional installation is recommended if you're not comfortable with basic automotive work.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 2/10 - Beginner friendly. This is the standard "first mod" for the GMT800 platform.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm Deep Socket & Ratchet (The most critical tool for any GM truck owner).
- Extension Bar (6-inch) for reaching the air box mounting plate bolts.
- Flathead Screwdriver or 5/16" Nut Driver for hose clamps.
- T20 Torx Bit (Verify your specific year; some MAF sensors use Torx, others use Phillips screws).
- MAF Sensor Cleaner (Optional but highly recommended while the sensor is out).
On these Gen III Vortec engines, the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is directional and incredibly sensitive. Do not touch the wire element inside with your fingers. The oil from your skin can cause reading errors, leading to a lean code (P0171/P0174). Also, ensure the airflow arrow stamped on the sensor housing points towards the throttle body, not the air filter. If you install it backward, the truck will barely run.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Start by isolating the electrical system. Use a 10mm wrench or socket to disconnect the negative terminal. This forces the ECU to reset its fuel trims for the new airflow.
- Remove the Vortec Engine Cover: Use a 10mm socket (or 8mm on earlier 1999-2000 models) to remove the single bolt holding the top plastic engine cover, then unhook it to reveal the intake manifold.
- Disconnect the MAF Harness: Locate the MAF sensor near the air box. Gently lift the grey locking tab and squeeze the connector to unplug it. Do not pull by the wires.
- Detach the PCV/Breather Hose: On the stock intake tube, locate the coolant/breather hose connected near the throttle body. Use pliers to slide the clamp back or simply pull firmly if it uses a rubber grommet connection.
- Remove the Intake Tube: Use a Flathead screwdriver or 5/16" driver to loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and the MAF sensor housing. Pull the accordion tube free.
- Remove the Air Box Assembly: Rock the factory air box back and forth to unseat it from the rubber grommets on the mounting tray. If your model has a mounting plate, use your 10mm socket with extension to remove the bolts securing the tray to the fender well.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevy Silverado 1500/2500 (1999-2006)
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: This is the most critical step. Remove the MAF sensor from the factory housing (usually using a T20 Torx or Phillips). Install it into the new intake pipe or adapter. Double-check the airflow direction arrow points toward the engine.
- Install the Heat Shield: Bolt the new metal heat shield into the factory location using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket. Ensure the weather stripping is pressed firmly onto the top edge to seal against the hood.
- Mount the Filter Adapter: Secure the filter adapter through the heat shield. Install the new high-flow cone filter onto the adapter and tighten the clamp with a 5/16" driver.
- Install Silicone Couplers: Place the silicone coupler onto the throttle body and the other end onto the filter adapter/MAF housing. Loosely install the hose clamps—do not fully tighten yet to allow for adjustment.
- Align and Connect the Tube: Slide the new intake tube into the couplers. Reconnect the PCV/breather hose to the new port on the tube (you may need the supplied hose extension provided in the kit). Once the tube is sitting without tension or rubbing against the fan shroud, tighten all hose clamps until snug. Do not overtighten or you will crack the plastic tube or tear the silicone.
- Reconnect and Relearn: Plug the MAF sensor harness back in. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the truck and let it idle for 5-10 minutes without touching the gas pedal; this allows the ECU to relearn the idle airflow parameters for the increased volume.
Disclaimer: This is a general guide provided for the 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Chevrolet Silverado with the 4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L Vortec engines. Always refer to your factory service manual for exact torque specifications and safety procedures.
