Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 4th Gen F-Body 3800 Series II V6 is universally known on the forums for one major headache: dry-rotted rubber intake bellows and extremely fragile Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensors. When removing the factory IAT sensor from the rubber grommet, DO NOT pull it straight out. The plastic probe will snap off, leaving you with a vacuum leak and a lean code. Spray the base of the sensor with silicone spray, let it penetrate, and gently twist to free it.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. This is mandatory on the 1995-1997 Chevrolet Pontiac Camaro Firebird 3.8L to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset.
Disconnect the Sensors: Locate your Mass Air Flow (MAF) and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensors. Depress the locking tabs on the connectors and pull the plugs straight back. Never pull by the wires themselves.

Assemble the New Couplers: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto your new Cold Air Intake tube. Loosely slide the new hose clamps over the couplers, but do not tighten them down yet. You will need flexibility for alignment.
Transfer the Vital Sensors (Critical Step): Delicately remove the MAF and IAT sensors from the old unit. Before installing the MAF into the new tubing, give the wire elements a quick blast with MAF Sensor Cleaner. Apply a drop of silicone spray to the new IAT grommet so the plastic sensor slides in smoothly without breaking.
Mount the Intake Tube: Position the new intake assembly onto the 3.8L throttle body and route the filter end down into the fender well area (or behind the headlights, depending on the exact filter placement). Ensure the tube is not rubbing against the alternator casing or radiator hoses.
Lock It Down and Reconnect: Once aligned, tighten all hose clamps securely with your 8mm socket. Reconnect the factory PCV fresh air hose to the port on the new intake. Finally, click the factory wiring harnesses back into the MAF and IAT sensors.
The Relearn Protocol: Reconnect your negative battery terminal and tighten it with your 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. The ECU needs this uninterrupted idle time to adjust its fuel trims to the newly increased volume of cold air.
