Elevate Your Chevy Blazer & S10 Vortec 4300 Performance with a High-Flow Cold Air Intake
Who It’s For: Designed specifically for Chevy Blazer, S10, GMC Jimmy, Sonoma, Oldsmobile Bravada, and Isuzu Hombre owners running the Vortec 4300 engine, who demand more from their daily driver or workhorse. If you’re tired of sluggish throttle response and want a real kick in power, this upgrade is for you.
The Problem: The factory airbox on your GM 4.3L V6, the trusty Vortec 4300, is an undeniable bottleneck. Engineered for quiet operation and cost efficiency, it severely restricts airflow, especially as your engine climbs in RPM. This chokes your engine’s ability to breathe, leading to wasted horsepower, torque, and less-than-optimal fuel economy. You’re essentially leaving power on the table every time you press the accelerator.
The Solution: We engineered this cold air intake to directly address those factory design flaws, delivering reliable, measurable performance. By replacing the restrictive OEM airbox and convoluted piping with a smooth, mandrel-bent aluminum tube and a high-flow, washable air filter, your Vortec 4300 can finally inhale deeply. This means colder, denser air reaching your engine, leading to more efficient combustion, sharper throttle response, and a noticeable increase in horsepower and torque.
Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade
- Performance Gains You Can Feel: Expect real-world gains of 5-10 horsepower and 6-8 lb-ft of torque. We’ve seen these numbers consistently on the dyno, and you’ll feel it in the seat of your pants – improved acceleration and better passing power, especially when merging onto the highway or tackling an incline. You might even see a slight bump in fuel mileage due to improved engine efficiency.
- Superior Filtration & Durability: Our high-flow micro cotton gauze type air filter isn’t just about flow; it’s about protection. It traps contaminants effectively while allowing maximum airflow. Unlike disposable paper filters, ours is washable and reusable, designed to last the lifetime of your vehicle without requiring oil, saving you money on replacements down the road. The aluminum piping is robust and designed for long-term reliability.
- Direct-Fit, Hassle-Free Installation: This kit is designed as a direct replacement for your factory air box and piping, ensuring a perfect fit for both auto and manual transmission models. While professional installation is always recommended for optimal results, experienced DIYers can tackle this in an afternoon with basic hand tools. No cutting or drilling required.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward bolt-on, but requires patience with brittle 20-year-old factory plastics and sensitive electronics.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm wrench (for battery terminals)
- 10mm deep socket, extension, and ratchet
- 8mm nut driver or Flathead screwdriver (for hose clamps)
- Panel popper tool (for wire loom clips)
- Silicone spray lubricant (vital for saving old sensors)
The S-Series chassis community universally hates the bulky factory "turtle" resonator box sitting on top of the 4.3L throttle body. It heat-soaks and clutters the engine bay. When removing it, be incredibly careful with the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor shoved into the factory rubber air tube. After decades of under-hood heat cycles, that grommet is rock hard. If you yank it dry, you will snap the plastic sensor tip. Spray it with silicone lube, let it sit for a minute, and twist slowly before pulling.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and reset the ECU fuel trims for your 1996-2005 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L.
- Disconnect the Sensors: Unplug the wiring harnesses from the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor and the IAT sensor. Use a panel popper to carefully detach any plastic wire loom clips secured to the factory air box to gain slack.
- Loosen the Clamps: Grab your 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver and loosen the hose clamps securing the intake tube to the throttle body and the MAF sensor.
- Remove the "Turtle" Resonator and Airbox: Remove the central 10mm mounting bolt holding the factory resonator bracket. Disconnect the PCV breather hose from the neck. Lift the entire factory airbox assembly and resonator out of the engine bay.
- Evacuate the Sensors: Spray a little silicone lube around the base of the IAT sensor. Gently twist and pull it free from the old rubber tube. Unbolt the MAF sensor from the factory airbox housing using your 10mm socket. Do NOT touch the delicate MAF wires or the honeycomb screen inside the housing.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevy Blazer Pickup (1996-2005) 4.3L Engine
- Mount the Heat Shield: Drop the new aftermarket heat shield into the factory airbox location. Secure it using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket and ratchet. Install the rubber edge trim to prevent chafing.
- Transfer the MAF and IAT Sensors: Push the supplied rubber grommet into the new aluminum intake pipe. Lubricate the tip of your factory IAT sensor and slide it securely into the grommet. Bolt your OEM MAF sensor to the new housing or coupler, ensuring the airflow directional arrow on the sensor points directly toward the throttle body.
- Install the New Intake Tube: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the throttle body and MAF sensor. Insert the new intake tube and position it for the best fitment without rubbing on engine accessories. Tighten all T-bolt or worm gear clamps down snugly using your 8mm nut driver.
- Reconnect the Breather and Wiring: Attach the new PCV breather hose to the vacuum fitting on the new intake pipe. Route your sensor wires safely away from belts and pulleys. Reconnect both the MAF and IAT wiring harnesses until you hear the plastic tabs click into place.
- Final Check and Startup: Double-check all clamps and hose connections. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. On the very first startup, do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds; allow the 1996-2005 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L ECU to idle and automatically adjust its fuel trim parameters to the new airflow volume.
