Are you tired of your Chevrolet Tahoe’s 5.3L V8 feeling sluggish off the line or struggling with a muted exhaust note? Experience an immediate surge of power and a commanding growl as you transform your daily drive into an exhilarating journey.
Performance Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Tahoe (2015-2019) 5.3L V8 L83
The factory air intake system on your 2015-2019 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L V8 (L83) is designed for quiet operation and cost efficiency, not optimal performance. Its narrow, convoluted piping and restrictive paper filter choke the engine, limiting its ability to breathe freely and achieve its full potential, especially under load or during spirited driving.
This high-performance cold air intake system specifically addresses these limitations, replacing the OEM airbox with a wide-diameter intake tube and a high-flow, reusable air filter. By delivering a significantly larger volume of cooler, denser oxygen into your engine’s combustion chambers, it unlocks improved horsepower, torque, and a far more responsive throttle feel for your Tahoe.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Enhanced Power & Torque: Delivers a massive increase in airflow to satisfy the 5.3L V8’s demand, resulting in measurable gains in horsepower and low-end torque for better acceleration and towing.
- Instant Throttle Response: Eliminates the factory "throttle lag" for immediate power delivery and sharper acceleration, making passing and merging effortless.
- Optimal Cold Air Delivery: Features a robust heat shield that isolates the air filter from hot engine bay temperatures, ensuring only cool, dense air reaches your engine for maximum efficiency.
- Aggressive V8 Induction Sound: Amplifies the natural growl of your 5.3L V8, providing a deeper, more commanding exhaust note under acceleration that truly matches its power.
- Superior Durability & Longevity: Constructed from premium, heat-resistant materials with a washable, reusable filter designed for enduring performance and reliability through all driving conditions.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 2/10 - Beginner friendly, basic hand tools needed. No lift required.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet (Battery terminal, airbox mounting bolts)
- 8mm Socket or Flathead Screwdriver (Hose clamps)
- T15 or T20 Torx Bit (CRITICAL for MAF Sensor removal—check your specific year)
- Panel Popper or small Flathead (For crankcase vent clips)
- 6-inch Extension (To reach the throttle body clamp easier)
The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) hard lines connecting the valve covers to the factory intake tube utilize notoriously brittle plastic quick-connect fittings on the GMT K2XX platform. DO NOT just yank them. Push the connector IN first to relieve tension, press the grey release tab, and then gently pull back. If you snap these, you’re taking a trip to the dealership.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Safety first. Use a 10mm wrench or socket to disconnect the negative terminal on your 2015-2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. This resets the ECU fuel trims for the new airflow.
- Disconnect the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on the factory air box lid. Slide the red locking tab back, squeeze the harness clip, and pull the plug. Do not pull by the wires.
- Remove the PCV Lines: Carefully disconnect the two crankcase breather hoses (one on each side of the intake resonator box) using the "Push-Click-Pull" method described in the Pro Tip above.
- Loosen the Clamps: Use an 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body and the clamp connecting the tube to the airbox.
- Remove the Assembly: Lift the huge factory resonator assembly (the "goiter") off the throttle body. Then, rock the bottom of the airbox back and forth to unseat it from the rubber grommets on the fender well. It should lift straight out.
- Extract the MAF Sensor: With the factory box on a workbench, use your T15/T20 Torx bit to remove the two screws holding the MAF sensor. Pull the sensor straight out gently. DO NOT touch the sensor bulb with your fingers; oils from your skin can ruin it.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Tahoe (2015-2019) 5.3L V8 Engine Blue
- Install the Heat Shield: Assemble the metal heat shield using the provided hardware. Seat it into the factory grommets on the fender well where the stock box used to sit.
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: Insert your factory MAF sensor into the new Blue Intake Pipe. Use the supplied hardware to secure it. Hand-tighten only with a screwdriver or Allen key—power tools will strip the aluminum threads instantly.
- Mount the Couplers: Install the silicone reducer coupler onto the throttle body. Secure it with a hose clamp using an 8mm socket. Do not fully tighten yet; leave it loose for adjustment.
- Install the Intake Tube: Slide the new intake tube into the heat shield opening first, then into the throttle body coupler. Align the tube so it does not rub against the fan shroud or coolant lines.
- Connect the Breather Hoses: Install the supplied rubber breather hoses from the kit onto the engine’s crankcase vent ports and connect them to the fittings on the new intake tube. Secure with the provided mini-clamps.
- Final Lockdown: Once the fitment is perfect, tighten all hose clamps at the throttle body and filter connection. Reconnect the MAF sensor harness. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- The Idle Relearn: Start the engine. DO NOT touch the gas pedal. Let the 5.3L V8 idle for at least 3 minutes. The RPMs may fluctuate as the computer learns the new air volume. This is normal.
Disclaimer: This is a general guide provided for the 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L. Always refer to your factory service manual for exact torque specifications and safety procedures.
