Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the GM K2XX platform (2015-2017), the PCV crankcase breather tube clips are notoriously brittle. These are the grey or black locking tabs connecting the hoses to the valve covers. Do NOT just yank them. Use a small screwdriver to gently slide the lock tab over before pulling. If you snap these, you will have a vacuum leak and an immediate Check Engine Light (CEL).

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Intake

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Start by isolating the electrical system on your 2015-2017 Chevrolet Suburban 5.3L. Use a 10mm socket or wrench to disconnect the negative terminal. This resets the ECU fuel trims for the new airflow.
  2. Remove Engine Cover: Most 5.3L L83 engines have a decorative cover. Lift it straight up to unseat it from the ball studs. If secured by bolts, use your 10mm socket to remove them.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Lines: Locate the two breather hoses connected to the factory intake resonator box. Carefully release the locking tabs (see the "Gotcha" above) and pull the hoses free.

  5. Remove the Assembly: Use an 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body. Lift and rock the entire air box and tube assembly out of the engine bay. It is held in by rubber grommets on the bottom—give it a firm tug upward.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Suburban (2015-2017) 5.3L V8 Engine Blue

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: This is the most critical step. Using a T15 Torx bit, remove the two screws holding the MAF sensor in the stock tube. Carefully transfer it to the new aluminum intake pipe. Do not touch the sensor bulb with your bare fingers. Secure it with the provided hardware. ensure the arrow on the sensor points toward the throttle body (airflow direction).

  4. Connect the Piping: Feed the intake tube through the heat shield and into the throttle body coupler. Align the PCV fittings on the pipe with your factory breather lines. Push the breather lines on until you hear an audible "click."
  5. Final Tightening: Once the fitment is aligned and the tube is not rubbing against the fan shroud or coolant lines, tighten all hose clamps firmly. Plug the MAF sensor harness back into the sensor.
  6. Relearn Procedure: Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the engine. Let it idle for 3-5 minutes without touching the gas pedal. This allows the ECU to relearn the idle airflow for the 5.3L V8 now that it is breathing freely.
