Is your Chevrolet Cruze’s 1.4L turbo feeling a bit sluggish, especially during merges or spirited driving? Unleash its true potential and experience a noticeable improvement in throttle response and power with this cold air intake.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Cruze (2011-2015) 1.4L DOHC Turbo

The factory intake system on your Chevrolet Cruze 1.4L DOHC Turbo is engineered primarily for quiet operation and cost-efficiency, not for maximizing engine performance. This often results in a restrictive factory air box and convoluted intake path that chokes your turbo engine, limiting its ability to breathe freely and deliver its full power output during highway merging or city driving.

This performance cold air intake system directly addresses these limitations. By replacing the restrictive OEM components with high-grade T304 aluminum piping and a high-flow performance air filter, it ensures a constant, cooler, and denser supply of oxygen-rich air to your turbo. This optimization translates into sharper throttle response, reduced turbo lag, and a significant boost in both horsepower and torque across the RPM range, providing a more capable and enjoyable driving experience.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Increased Horsepower & Torque: Experience a noticeable gain in power for more dynamic acceleration and improved turbo spool.
  • Optimized Air-to-Fuel Ratio: Ensures a cleaner and more efficient burn, potentially improving fuel efficiency under normal driving conditions.
  • Eliminates Turbo Lag: Enjoy more immediate and crisp throttle response by reducing intake restrictions.
  • Enhanced Aggressive Sound: Gives your 1.4L turbo a deeper, more satisfying induction growl.
  • Optimized Air Velocity: Maintains consistent and high-velocity airflow for reliable, peak engine performance.
  • Superior Engine Protection: High-flow filter efficiently blocks harmful contaminants while maximizing air intake.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires patience with brittle factory GM plastics under the hood.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm Socket & Ratchet (For the battery terminal and heat shield mounting)
  • 8mm Nut Driver or Socket (For the factory hose clamps and aftermarket coupler clamps)
  • T20 Torx Driver (For the factory MAF sensor screws)
  • Flathead Screwdriver or Panel Popper (To release the locking tabs on the MAF harness and PCV breather)
  • Metric Hex Key Set (For the new aftermarket MAF sensor hardware)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The Gen 1 Cruze (LUJ/LUV 1.4T engine) is notorious for heat-soaking and baking its under-hood plastics. The corrugated PCV breather hose connecting to the factory intake tube becomes incredibly brittle over time. When using your Flathead Screwdriver to pop the retaining clip, do not force or twist it heavily, or the plastic line will immediately snap. Take your time. Additionally, the factory T20 MAF screws thread directly into plastic—do not cross-thread them on removal, and do not drop the sensitive sensor!

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2011-2015 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and reset the ECU fuel trims for the new airflow.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Slide the red locking tab back with a Flathead Screwdriver, press down on the clip, and gently unplug the wiring harness from the sensor.
  3. Remove the MAF Sensor: Carefully extract the two screws using a T20 Torx Driver. Pull the sensor straight out of the housing. Place it in a safe, clean location. Do not touch the delicate internal sensor wires with your fingers.
  4. Disconnect the PCV Breather: Push the release tab on the plastic PCV breather fitting located on the side of the factory intake tube. Wiggle it straight back gently to avoid snapping the brittle factory line.
  5. Loosen the Intake Clamps: Use an 8mm socket or nut driver to loosen the hose clamp at the turbo inlet and the clamp holding the corrugated tube to the factory airbox.
  6. Extract the Airbox: Pull the factory tube off the turbo inlet. Then, firmly grab the factory airbox assembly and pull straight up to pop it out of the three lower rubber mounting grommets.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Cruze (2011-2015) 1.4L DOHC Turbo Engine - Red

  1. Mount the Heat Shield: Drop the new aftermarket heat shield into the space vacated by the factory airbox. Align the bottom pegs with the factory rubber grommets and push down firmly to seat them. Secure any provided bracketry to the chassis using your 10mm Socket.
  2. Install the Silicone Coupler: Slide the provided silicone step-coupler onto the factory turbo inlet. Slide two hose clamps loosely over the coupler. Tighten the turbo-side clamp snugly with an 8mm socket.
  3. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Carefully slide the factory MAF sensor into the precision-machined slot on your new red intake pipe. Ensure the sensor orientation matches the factory setup (the airflow arrow on the sensor must point toward the engine). Secure it using the newly provided Allen bolts and a Hex Key. Do not attempt to reuse the factory coarse-thread T20 screws on the new metal pipe.
  4. Route the New Intake Pipe: Guide the new red intake tube through the heat shield and slip the lower end into the silicone coupler at the turbo inlet. Adjust for clearance so the pipe isn’t rubbing on the coolant reservoir or brake lines, then tighten the remaining clamp with your 8mm socket.
  5. Connect the Air Filter & PCV: Slide the high-flow air filter onto the end of the intake tube inside the heat shield and clamp it down securely. Finally, push the factory PCV breather hose onto the welded nipple on the new pipe until you hear a positive click.
  6. Reconnect & Calibrate: Plug the MAF harness back into the sensor and push the red locking tab forward. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. On the first startup, do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds; let the vehicle idle untouched so the ECU can properly adjust its internal tables to the increased volume of cold air.
