Performance Cold Air Intake Induction Kit for 2005–2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS 2.0L Supercharged – Better Throttle Response and Higher Power Output

Personalized to unlock the hidden performance of your Cobalt's engine, this induction system focuses on giving you more total output. Custom-built for the 2.0L Supercharged 4-cylinder engine, this kit replaces the restrictive factory air box and intake tube that often limits your vehicle's potential. Whether you are keeping things stock or looking to improve your power, this performance upgrade provides a smooth path for air to reach the engine, leading to better efficiency and a more responsive drive.

Standard intake parts are often designed for silence, creating internal blocks that limit the engine's air supply. By utilizing high-velocity piping to pull in a larger volume of cooler, dense air, this system removes those barriers. This ensures that the engine works more effectively, leading to faster acceleration and a boost in power for your daily driving.

Key Features

  • Output Gain: Boosts horsepower and torque by up to 10% for a noticeable increase in performance.
  • Open Induction: Replaces narrow factory parts with a high-flow pathway to satisfy the supercharger's demand for air.
  • Better Throttle Response: Removes the slow feeling of the stock intake for faster acceleration when you step on the gas.
  • Fuel Efficiency: Balances air-to-fuel ratios for a more effective burn and better fuel use.
  • Sporty Sound: Enhances the vehicle's sound with a deeper intake growl and audible supercharger whine during acceleration.
  • Durable Build: Built with premium materials to resist corrosion and ensure long-term reliability.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic hand tools, but involves removing the driver-side inner fender liner to evict the bulky factory silencer.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket, ratchet, and a 6-inch extension (for the battery and factory airbox mounting bolts)
  • 8mm nut driver or socket (for factory and aftermarket hose clamps)
  • T15 Torx bit (for the factory MAF sensor screws)
  • Panel popper tool (for removing the brittle fender liner push-pins)
  • Floor jack and jack stands (to safely access the lower fender well)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The universally agreed-upon headache for the LSJ platform is the factory lower airbox (the "snorkus"). It is wedged deep inside the driver-side fender well. Do not try to wrestle it out from the top of the engine bay, or you will snap the brittle factory plastic and risk heavily scratching your paint. Take the extra five minutes to pop out the inner fender liner clips with your panel popper and drop the box out from the bottom. Additionally, the factory Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is incredibly fragile—never touch the exposed wire element when transferring it!

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS 2.0L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal located in the trunk using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and begin the ECU reset process.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the MAF sensor on the factory plastic intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press the clip, and pull the harness off. Use your T15 Torx bit to remove the two screws holding the sensor, pull it out perfectly straight, and place it in a clean, safe spot.
  3. Loosen the Intake Tube Clamps: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the factory hose clamps at the supercharger throttle body and the upper airbox. Wiggle the factory corrugated rubber intake tube free and set it aside.
  4. Unbolt the Upper Airbox: Use your 10mm socket and 6-inch extension to remove the retaining bolts holding the top half of the airbox to the engine bay chassis. Lift the upper assembly out.
  5. Evict the Lower Silencer: Safely jack up the front driver side and secure it on a jack stand. Use your panel popper tool to remove the push-pins holding the front half of the inner fender liner. Peel the liner back to expose the massive lower airbox resonator. Remove its mounting nuts with a 10mm socket and drop the entire bulky unit out from the bottom.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Cobalt SS (2005-2007) 2.0L Supercharged Engine

  1. Mount the Silicone Couplers: Slide the provided silicone step-coupler onto the supercharger throttle body. Slide two clamps over it, but only snug the throttle body side using your 8mm socket. Leave the intake side clamp loose so you can adjust the pipe later.
  2. Route the New Intake Pipe: Carefully feed the new cold air intake pipe down through the engine bay into the fender well cavity where the factory silencer used to live. Align the upper end into the throttle body coupler. Secure the pipe’s welded bracket to the factory chassis mounting point using a 10mm socket.
  3. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Take the factory MAF sensor you saved earlier and gently slide it into the precision machined MAF flange on your new intake pipe. Secure it using the supplied hardware (or your factory T15 Torx screws) and reconnect the wiring harness. Ensure the sensor is facing the correct direction, with the airflow arrow pointing toward the supercharger.
  4. Install the High-Flow Filter: From the wheel well, slide the new air filter onto the bottom of the intake pipe. Secure it firmly by tightening the clamp with your 8mm nut driver. Reinstall your inner fender liner and secure it with the factory push-pins. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Tighten and Relearn: Go over all your hose clamps and tighten them down securely with your 8mm socket. Reconnect the battery in the trunk. On the first startup, turn the key and let the engine idle. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds so the 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS 2.0L ECU can properly adjust its fuel trims to the newly increased airflow.
