Unleash the LFX V6: Red Performance Cold Air Intake for 2012-2015 Chevrolet Camaro LS / LT

Who It’s For: Designed specifically for Chevrolet Camaro LS / LT owners running the venerable LFX V6 engine (2012-2015 model years).

The Problem: You love your Camaro’s LFX V6. It’s a great motor, known for its smooth power delivery. But let’s be real – GM designed that stock intake system to be quiet, not for maximum performance. It’s riddled with restrictive baffles and tight bends that choke off airflow, especially when you’re really leaning on the throttle. That means slower throttle response, less horsepower, and your LFX V6 isn’t truly breathing to its full potential.

The Solution: This isn’t just a pretty red tube. We’ve engineered this Cold Air Intake system to directly address those factory limitations of the LFX V6. By replacing the restrictive OEM air box with a high-flow, smooth-bore T-304 aluminum induction path, you’re allowing your engine to pull in a consistent stream of cooler, denser air. This translates directly into sharper throttle response, measurable gains in horsepower and torque, and finally lets your LFX V6 sing with an aggressive induction roar it deserves.

Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade

  • Sharper Performance: Experience immediate and noticeable gains in horsepower and torque across the RPM range. By delivering a colder, denser air charge to your LFX V6, this system enhances combustion efficiency, giving you quicker acceleration and improved responsiveness that you’ll feel every time you hit the gas.
  • Premium Durability: Crafted from lightweight, mandrel-bent T-304 aluminum, this intake tubing is built to last. It’s designed for rapid heat dissipation, ensuring the air reaching your engine stays as cool as possible. Paired with a high-quality, washable, and reusable air filter, you get superior protection and sustained performance for the long haul.
  • Direct Bolt-On Install: Engineered for a precise fit, this kit replaces your factory components without requiring any modifications. All necessary couplers, clamps, and hardware are included, making for a straightforward installation that most enthusiasts can tackle in their garage. Disconnecting your battery during the install allows your ECU to properly adapt to the increased airflow.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward driveway bolt-on, but requires strict care when handling brittle LFX engine plastics and the sensitive mass airflow sensor.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket, extension, and ratchet
  • 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver
  • T20 Torx driver
  • 4mm Allen wrench
  • Panel popper tool
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the 5th Gen LFX engines, the factory hard-plastic PCV breather hose connected to the intake resonator gets extremely brittle from heat cycles. Do not muscle it. Push the grey release ring fully before gently pulling it off. If you force it, you will snap the locking collar and be stuck waiting for a $40 dealer replacement part. Additionally, never touch the exposed wire inside the MAF sensor during transfer—even the oil from your skin can cause erratic idling.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal in the trunk using a 10mm socket to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset.
  2. Disconnect the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor on the factory air box. Slide the red locking tab back with your thumb, then press down on the black release clip and pull the plug free. Tuck the harness out of the way.
  3. Release the PCV Breather: Locate the hard plastic PCV line running into the side of the intake tube. Depress the grey locking ring and gently wiggle the hose straight off the fitting.
  4. Loosen the Intake Clamps: Use your 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamp securing the factory rubber intake tube to the throttle body.
  5. Remove the Factory Air Box: Use your 10mm socket and extension to remove the two nuts securing the air box to the passenger side fender wall. Once removed, grab the entire air box and intake tube assembly and pull firmly upward to pop it out of the lower rubber grommets. Remove the entire assembly from the 2012-2015 Chevrolet Camaro 3.6L engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Camaro LS / LT (2012-2015) 3.6L V6 Engine Red

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using your T20 Torx driver, carefully remove the two screws holding the factory MAF sensor into the OEM air box. Pull the sensor straight out. Slide the MAF sensor into the new aftermarket aluminum intake tube, ensuring the airflow arrow points toward the throttle body. Secure it using the supplied bolts and a 4mm Allen wrench.
  2. Install the Heat Shield: Assemble the aftermarket heat shield with the supplied edge trim. Drop it into the factory mounting location and secure it to the fender wall studs using your 10mm socket and the original factory nuts.
  3. Mount the Coupler and Filter: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the throttle body and secure the inner clamp using your 8mm socket. Next, bolt the large red conical air filter to the intake tube or heat shield adapter, tightening the large clamp securely.
  4. Position the Red Intake Tube: Push the intake tube into the throttle body coupler. Align the tube so it sits cleanly through the heat shield without rubbing any metal edges. Tighten all remaining hose clamps with your 8mm socket.
  5. Reconnect Vital Systems: Push the factory PCV breather line onto the new aluminum intake tube fitting until you hear a distinct click. Plug the harness back into the MAF sensor and push the red locking tab forward.
  6. Final Startup Procedure: Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. Allow the car to idle completely untouched so the ECM can calibrate the fuel trims for the increased airflow of your new 2012-2015 Chevrolet Camaro 3.6L cold air intake.
