Maximize Your 2.0L FSI/TFSI EA113: Performance Cold Air Intake for Audi A3 & VW GTI
Who It’s For: Designed specifically for Audi A3, VW Golf, Jetta, or Passat owners running the legendary 2.0L FSI/TFSI EA113 engine, whether you’re chasing faster quarter-mile times or just want a more responsive daily driver.
The Problem: When you’re pushing your 2.0L FSI/TFSI EA113, especially in the 200-220 HP factory tune, that stock airbox becomes a major choke point. It’s designed for quiet operation, not peak performance. The restrictive factory piping and filter element simply can’t supply the turbocharged engine with the sheer volume of cool, dense air it craves, particularly when the turbo is spooling hard or you’ve added a tune. You feel that lag, that hesitation, as the engine struggles to breathe.
The Solution: We engineered this short ram cold air intake to correct those factory design flaws of the 2.0L FSI/TFSI EA113. By providing a much more direct, high-velocity path for air to reach the turbocharger, along with a high-flow filter, this system eliminates the restrictions that are holding your car back. It means quicker turbo spool, a more urgent throttle response, and a noticeable bump in power delivery across the entire RPM range. Plus, that aggressive turbo sound? You’ll get that too, loud and clear.
Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade
- Enhanced Turbo Performance: The short-ram design dramatically reduces the distance air travels to the turbo, leading to faster spool-up, sharper throttle response, and more immediate power delivery, especially beneficial for the 2.0L FSI/TFSI.
- Unrestricted Airflow: Engineered with a smooth, optimized internal diameter, this system minimizes air turbulence and maximizes intake velocity, ensuring your 2.0L FSI/TFSI EA113 gets the consistent, high-volume air it needs for peak efficiency and increased horsepower.
- Durability & Filtration: Features a premium, high-flow performance air filter designed to capture debris while maintaining maximum airflow. This robust construction ensures long-term reliability and engine protection, even under aggressive driving conditions.
- Aggressive Turbo Sound: Experience the true voice of your turbocharged engine. This intake unlocks the distinct whoosh and whistle of your turbocharger, along with more pronounced diverter valve feedback, adding a raw, performance-oriented soundtrack to your drive.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires patience dealing with baked-on, heat-cycled plastics in the engine bay.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm wrench and 10mm socket with ratchet (for battery and heat shield)
- T25 Torx driver (for MAF sensor housing)
- Hose clamp pliers or Channel locks (for factory spring clamps)
- Flathead screwdriver or small pick tool (for sensor clips)
- 8mm socket or nut driver (for aftermarket worm-gear clamps)
- Silicone spray lubricant (vital for seating tight rubber couplers)
On the EA113 2.0T FSI engine, the massive factory engine cover IS the airbox. The biggest 8P chassis community headache is DIYers ripping the rubber mounting grommets out or cracking the brittle plastic cover by yanking it at a weird angle. Worse, people often forget to unplug the MAF sensor before ripping the cover off, shattering the brittle VAG connector clip. Pull straight up from the four corners, and double-check your sensor wires before you lift!
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start your 2006-2008 Audi A3 2.0L intake install by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and electrical shorts.
- Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on the intake tube. Use a small pick tool or your thumb to gently slide the locking tab back, press down, and pull. Don’t force it; these heat-cycled connectors snap easily.
- Disconnect Intake Hoses: Use your hose clamp pliers to compress the spring clamp securing the turbo inlet hose at the back of the engine. Next, unclip the small hard plastic vacuum line (PCV breather) from the side of the intake tube by squeezing the textured retention ring and pulling straight back.
- Remove the Engine Cover/Airbox Assembly: Grab the front two corners of the 2006-2008 Audi A3 2.0L factory engine cover. Give a firm, straight upward pull to pop the front off the metal ball studs. Repeat for the rear two corners. Carefully lift the entire assembly out of the engine bay.
- Extract the Factory MAF: Flip the factory engine cover over on a workbench. Use your T25 Torx driver to remove the two screws holding the MAF sensor element into the plastic housing. Pull the sensor straight out, taking extreme care not to touch the delicate wire element inside with your fingers or tools. Set it aside in a clean, safe spot.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake
- Install the Heat Shield: Drop the aftermarket heat shield into the space vacated by the factory airbox. Secure it to the factory chassis mounting points using the supplied hardware and a 10mm socket.
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: Insert your delicate factory MAF sensor into the new billet aluminum or plastic MAF housing provided with the Cold Air Intake. Secure it using the supplied bolts (often requiring an Allen key or your T25 Torx driver). Ensure the sensor is facing the correct direction (look for the airflow arrow pointing toward the turbo).
- Route the New Piping: Slide the silicone couplers onto the turbo inlet and the new intake tube. A quick spritz of silicone spray inside the couplers helps them slide on without rolling the edges. Position the pipe and lightly snug the provided worm gear clamps with an 8mm socket. Leave them just loose enough for final rotation adjustments.
- Mount the Filter and Reconnect Hoses: Attach the high-flow conical filter to the end of the intake pipe and tighten the clamp with your 8mm socket. Snap the factory PCV breather line into the aftermarket fitting on your new pipe. Plug the MAF sensor connector back in until you hear a distinct click.
- Final Lockdown and ECU Reset: Check your clearances so nothing rubs on the brake lines or hood, then tighten all clamps from the turbo to the filter. Reconnect your negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. On the very first startup, DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the 2006-2008 Audi A3 2.0L idle so the ECU can properly calibrate to the massive increase in airflow.
