Unleash the K24A2: Performance Cold Air Intake for 2004-2007 Acura TSX

Who It’s For: Designed specifically for Acura TSX owners running the venerable K24A2 engine, particularly those who demand more from their daily driver or track-day warrior. If you’re tired of the muted performance and want to hear that i-VTEC sing, this is your upgrade.

The Problem: From the factory, the K24A2 in the TSX is a marvel of engineering, but its stock intake system is heavily compromised by noise regulations and cost-cutting. It’s a restrictive plastic labyrinth designed more for quiet operation than maximizing airflow. This bottleneck chokes the engine, especially during spirited driving, limiting its ability to breathe in cool, dense air. For TSX models without a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, the factory setup also makes it harder for the ECU to accurately adjust to sudden air volume changes, leaving power on the table.

The Solution: We’ve engineered this cold air intake system to completely bypass those factory design flaws of the K24A2. By drawing in colder, denser air from outside the engine bay and routing it through a high-flow induction tube, this system provides your engine with the oxygen-rich charge it craves. The result is improved combustion efficiency, sharper throttle response, and a measurable increase in horsepower and torque throughout the entire RPM range, transforming your TSX’s driving dynamics.

Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade

  • Enhanced Power & Torque: Experience gains of up to 10% in horsepower and torque. This isn’t just a peak number; we’re talking about a noticeable improvement in mid-range pull and top-end thrust, making highway merging or canyon carving feel significantly more energetic.
  • Optimized Thermal Management: Unlike stock systems that can suffer from heat soak in the engine bay, our design specifically routes air from a cooler, external source. Cooler air means denser air, leading to a more potent combustion cycle and consistent power delivery, even under demanding conditions.
  • Direct Throttle Response: By streamlining the air path and reducing turbulence, you’ll feel a more immediate connection between your foot and the engine. The K24A2 will respond with crispness that the factory setup could only dream of, making every gear change and acceleration exhilarating.
  • Signature K24A2 Soundtrack: Beyond the power gains, this intake unlocks the aggressive induction note of your TSX’s K24A2 engine. Under heavy throttle, you’ll hear that characteristic Honda growl and VTEC crossover amplified, adding to the visceral driving experience without being overbearing.
  • Superior Filtration: Equipped with a high-flow, reusable performance air filter, this system not only allows for maximum airflow but also effectively blocks harmful debris. It’s engineered to protect your high-revving i-VTEC power plant while ensuring consistent, clean air delivery for miles to come.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 60-90 Minutes (Factoring in the notorious bumper resonator removal)
  • Difficulty: 4/10 - Mechanically simple, but requires patience with brittle 15-year-old plastic clips.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm deep socket with a 12-inch extension and ratchet
  • Plastic panel popper (or a flathead screwdriver wrapped in electrical tape)
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • 8mm nut driver or socket (for the new hose clamps)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The biggest headache on the CL9 chassis is the massive factory "icebox" resonator buried inside the driver’s side front bumper. You cannot muscle it out from the top. Do not try to rip it out; you will damage your A/C lines or wiring harness. You must pop the clips on the driver’s side wheel well liner with your panel popper and peel the liner back to access the hidden lower 10mm bolts holding the resonator to the chassis. Also, the K24A2 does not use a MAF sensor; it uses an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor on the rubber intake tube. The plastic on this sensor gets extremely brittle from engine heat. Twist it gently before pulling so you don’t snap the tip off inside the factory arm.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2004-2007 Acura TSX 2.4L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent a check engine light or short-circuiting the DBW (Drive-By-Wire) system.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temperature sensor plugged into the factory rubber intake hose. Depress the grey tab and pull the harness straight off. Do not yank the wires. Gently wiggle the sensor body and pull it out of the rubber grommet. Set it aside in a safe spot.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Breather: Use your needle-nose pliers to squeeze the metal spring clamp on the crankcase breather hose connected to the intake tube. Slide the clamp back and pull the hose free.
  4. Remove the Upper Airbox and Tube: Use a Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body. Unbolt the two 10mm bolts securing the upper airbox to the chassis. Pull the assembly off the throttle body and lift it out of the engine bay.
  5. Extract the Hidden Resonator: Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Use your panel popper to remove the plastic push-clips holding the driver’s side front wheel well liner. Peel the liner back to expose the lower resonator box. Use your 10mm socket and 12-inch extension to remove the remaining bolts securing the box to the frame, then drop the resonator out from the bottom.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake on your 2004-2007 Acura TSX 2.4L

  1. Prep the Throttle Body: Wipe down the outer lip of the factory throttle body. Slide the new silicone coupler over the throttle body along with two hose clamps. Tighten the throttle body side clamp using your 8mm nut driver until it is snug. Leave the front clamp loose.
  2. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Take the supplied rubber grommet and push it into the pre-drilled hole on your new intake pipe. Carefully press the factory IAT sensor into the grommet. A tiny drop of clean engine oil on the sensor’s O-ring will help it slide in without tearing the rubber.
  3. Route the Intake Pipe: Carefully feed the lower section of the cold air intake pipe down through the hole in the engine bay where the factory airbox used to sit, routing it into the bumper cavity. Slide the upper end into the silicone coupler at the throttle body.
  4. Secure the Brackets and Filter: Align the welded mounting brackets on the pipe with the factory threaded holes on the chassis. Thread in the provided 10mm vibration mounts/bolts and tighten them down. Go underneath the bumper area and slide the aftermarket air filter onto the bottom of the pipe, securing it with your 8mm nut driver.
  5. Final Connections and ECU Relearn: Reconnect the PCV breather hose to the fitting on the new pipe using the factory spring clamp and pliers. Plug the wiring harness back into the IAT sensor. Reconnect your negative battery terminal. Start the engine, but do absolutely nothing else. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds; let the K24A2 ECU adapt to the increased airflow and establish a steady idle.
