Performance Cold Air Intake System for 2007–2013 Acura MDX 3.7L V6 – Refined Air Intake & Increased Horsepower

Ensure your Acura MDX's maximized airflow and engine performance boost with this precision-engineered cold air intake system. Engineered specifically for the high-displacement 3.7L V6 engine, this kit replaces the restrictive factory air box that often limits the potential of your SUV during heavy acceleration or highway cruising. By optimizing the way your engine breathes, this system provides the cooler, denser air charge needed for improved combustion efficiency and a more powerful driving experience.

The factory intake components are designed for silence over speed, creating bottlenecks that restrict the engine's ability to breathe under load. Cooler air carries more oxygen, which translates into a more intense explosion in the combustion chamber to create more horsepower and torque. This system utilizes high-flow induction tubing that effectively reduces air turbulence, allowing your 3.7L V6 to act as a more efficient air pump and providing a performance increase of up to 10% throughout the entire RPM range.

Key Features & Performance Benefits

  • Power Gain: Increases horsepower and torque by up to 10% for better off-the-line acceleration and passing power.
  • Thermal Control: Designed to draw in cooler air from outside the engine bay to maintain a denser air charge and reduce heat soak.
  • Instant Response: Streamlines the air intake to provide a more direct connection between the pedal and the pavement.
  • Engine Tone: Enhances the deep, authoritative V6 growl under heavy acceleration, giving your MDX a more aggressive sound.
  • Consistent Flow: Maintains steady air velocity for reliable performance across all driving conditions, from city streets to mountain passes.
  • High Filtration: Blocks harmful debris while allowing maximum airflow for the demands of the 3.7L power plant.

What's Included

Your kit features the high-velocity induction piping, a reusable high-flow performance air filter, and all required couplers, clamps, and hardware for a complete and secure installation.

Installation Tip

Important: Disconnect the NEGATIVE GROUND CABLE from the battery before starting the installation and keep it off for at least one minute after you finish. This reset allows the engine's computer to learn the new airflow parameters and adjust accordingly. Ensure the engine is completely cool before beginning work.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time for your 2007-2013 Acura MDX

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward driveway bolt-on, but you’ll need patience maneuvering the bulky factory airbox out of the tight J-Series engine bay.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket and ratchet (with a 6-inch extension)
  • 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver (for hose clamps)
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver (strictly for the MAF sensor)
  • Panel popper tool (for factory shroud and harness clips)
  • Needle-nose pliers (for the crankcase breather spring clamp)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The OEM rubber "accordion" intake tube on the 2007-2013 Acura MDX J35/J37 engines is notorious on MDX forums for dry-rotting and tearing in the folds. This causes hidden vacuum leaks and lean codes (P0171/P0174). When removing it, pieces may flake off. More importantly, your Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is highly sensitive. When transferring it to the new intake, never touch the exposed wire tip, and be incredibly gentle with the factory Phillips screws holding it in—they strip very easily.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2007-2013 Acura MDX

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset for the new airflow parameters.
  2. Remove the Engine Cover: Grab the plastic factory engine cover firmly and pull upward to pop it off its rubber grommets. Set it aside safely.
  3. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the MAF sensor on top of the factory airbox. Depress the plastic tab on the wiring harness and pull backward to disconnect it. Carefully unclip the wiring loom from the airbox using your panel popper tool.
  4. Disconnect the PCV Breather Hose: Use your needle-nose pliers to squeeze the spring clamp on the crankcase breather hose connected to the factory intake tube. Wiggle and pull the hose free.
  5. Extract the Factory Tube and Airbox: Use your 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and the airbox. Pull the rubber accordion tube off. Next, use your 10mm socket and 6-inch extension to locate and remove the three mounting bolts securing the lower airbox to the chassis. Lift the entire airbox assembly straight up and out of the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Acura MDX (2007-2013) 3.5L 3.7L Engines

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using your #2 Phillips screwdriver, carefully remove the two screws securing the MAF sensor to the OEM airbox. Gently pull the sensor straight out and immediately insert it into the new aftermarket intake tube, securing it with the provided hardware. Do not overtighten these screws.
  2. Mount the New Heat Shield: Drop the aftermarket heat shield or airbox base into the factory location. Thread and tighten the bolts using your 10mm socket, ensuring it sits flush against the chassis to block radiant engine heat.
  3. Install the Silicone Coupler: Slide the provided silicone coupler onto the factory throttle body and snug the clamp down with your 8mm socket. Leave the clamp on the intake-tube side loose for adjustments.
  4. Seat the New Intake Tube: Slide the new intake tube into the silicone coupler, route it through the heat shield, and attach the new conical air filter to the end. Once everything is aligned properly without rubbing against hoses or lines, tighten all remaining hose clamps with your 8mm socket.
  5. Reconnect Lines and Harnesses: Slide the PCV breather hose onto the new intake tube port and secure it with the factory spring clamp using your pliers. Plug the MAF sensor harness back into the sensor until you hear a definitive click.
  6. Perform the Idle Relearn: Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench and ensure everything is tight. Start the vehicle. Do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. Let the J-Series engine idle uninterrupted so the ECU can properly adjust to the increased volume of cold air.
