Ignite Your C32A V6: Performance Cold Air Intake for Acura Legend & TL

Who It’s For: Designed specifically for 1991-1998 Acura Legend and TL owners running the venerable C32A V6 engine who are looking to breathe new life into their ride. If you’re tired of your Legend feeling a bit winded at higher RPMs or your TL lacking that sharp throttle response, this is your upgrade.

The Problem: Let’s be real, the factory intake on the C32A V6 was engineered for quiet cruising, not spirited performance. The stock air box and convoluted intake tract are notoriously restrictive, choking off the engine’s potential for maximum airflow. This leads to reduced horsepower and torque, especially when you push it hard. On top of that, drawing hot air from inside the engine bay only compounds the issue, robbing your C32A V6 of dense, oxygen-rich air for optimal combustion.

The Solution: We engineered this cold air intake system to correct the factory design flaws of the C32A V6, delivering reliable, quantifiable performance. By relocating the air filter to an area that draws in cooler, denser ambient air, and utilizing a smoother, high-velocity induction tube, we’re allowing your engine to inhale freely. This isn’t just about sound; it’s about optimizing air charge density and volume for improved combustion efficiency, translating directly into more horsepower and torque at the wheels and a much crisper throttle feel.

Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade

  • Enhanced Performance: Experience a noticeable increase in horsepower and torque across the entire RPM range, up to 10% gain. You’ll feel your C32A V6 pull harder, accelerate quicker, and have far more high-end responsiveness, making highway merging or spirited driving a joy again.
  • Superior Air Filtration & Thermal Management: Our high-flow, reusable performance air filter ensures maximum airflow while effectively blocking harmful debris from entering your engine. Combined with its cold air design, you’re providing your C32A V6 with the coolest, densest air charge possible for optimal combustion and long-term engine health.
  • Direct Bolt-On Installation: This kit is a complete package, including all high-velocity induction piping, the performance air filter, couplers, clamps, and hardware. It’s designed for a straightforward installation, allowing you to easily swap out your restrictive factory setup and get back on the road with improved performance.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time for Your 1991-1995 Acura Legend 3.2L

  • Estimated Time: 60-90 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 4/10 - The top-end intake swap is a breeze, but the C32A engine hides a massive factory resonator box down inside the passenger fender well. Extracting it requires some patience with 30-year-old plastics.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm & 12mm sockets with a 6-inch extension and a 3/8-inch drive ratchet
  • 8mm nut driver (for aftermarket T-bolt or worm gear clamps)
  • Phillips head screwdriver (for factory hose clamps)
  • Panel popper tool (critical for the brittle splash guard clips)
  • Needle-nose pliers (for factory vacuum hose spring clamps)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
Legend enthusiasts know the "vacuum spaghetti" on these 1991-1995 Acura Legend 3.2L engines gets incredibly brittle. When removing the PAIRC (Pulse Secondary Air Injection) hose and the valve cover breather from the factory intake tube, DO NOT twist them violently. Use a quick spray of silicone lubricant and carefully walk them off with your pliers. Breaking the plastic nipples on these old sensors will leave you stranded waiting for discontinued OEM parts. Furthermore, to get the true cold air benefit, you MUST remove the giant plastic resonator from the passenger fender well—don’t take shortcuts here.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset its fuel trims.
  2. Disconnect the Sensors and Hoses: Locate the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor plugged into the factory intake piping and carefully unclip the harness. Using your needle-nose pliers, pinch the spring clamps holding the valve cover breather hose and the PAIRC vacuum line, then slide them back. Gently pull the hoses off the intake tube.
  3. Remove the Upper Airbox and Tube: Grab your Phillips head screwdriver or 10mm socket to loosen the band clamp at the throttle body. Unbolt the top half of the airbox using a 10mm socket and pull the entire upper intake tube and filter housing out of the engine bay.
  4. Access the Lower Resonator (The Boss Fight): Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right (or safely jack up the front right corner and remove the passenger wheel). Using your panel popper tool, carefully pry out the plastic retaining clips holding the inner fender liner back. Fold the liner out of the way.
  5. Extract the Factory Resonator: Look up into the fender well to locate the massive plastic resonator box. Use your 10mm socket on a 6-inch extension to remove the mounting bolts securing it to the chassis. Wiggle the entire assembly down and out of the vehicle.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Acura Legend (1991-1995) 3.2L

  1. Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone reducer coupler onto the throttle body. Secure the throttle body side using an 8mm nut driver to tighten down the hose clamp. Leave the outer clamp loose for now.
  2. Route the Cold Air Pipe: Take your new Cold Air Intake pipe and carefully snake it down through the hole in the engine bay where the factory airbox used to sit, routing the lower end into the passenger fender well. Slide the upper end into the silicone coupler at the throttle body.
  3. Transfer Sensors and Reconnect Hoses: If your new intake pipe features a grommet for the IAT sensor, carefully push the factory sensor into the hole (a dab of clean engine oil helps it slide in). Push the factory PAIRC line and valve cover breather hose onto the welded nipples on the new pipe. Secure them with the OEM spring clamps using your pliers.
  4. Mount the Cone Filter: Reach back into the passenger fender well. Slide the high-flow cone filter onto the bottom of the intake pipe. Position it so it is not rubbing against any metal chassis edges, then clamp it down tight with your 8mm nut driver. Reinstall your fender liner using the plastic clips.
  5. Secure and Align: Double-check all clearances. Tighten the remaining hose clamp at the throttle body. Bolt the intake pipe’s welded bracket to the factory mounting point using a 10mm socket to prevent vibration.
  6. The ECU Relearn Procedure: Reconnect your negative battery terminal. Start the engine, but DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle so the ECU can calibrate to the newly increased airflow. Check for any whistling or vacuum leaks around your couplers.
