Command the Road: Cold Air Intake for Your 1990-1993 Acura Integra B17/ B18 DOHC
Who It’s For: Designed specifically for 1990-1993 Acura Integra GS, RS, LS, and GSR owners running the legendary B17A1 or B18 DOHC engine. If you’re looking to wake up your DA chassis and make it breathe like it should, this is your ticket.
The Problem: Let’s be real, the factory intake on these iconic B-series Integras was a compromise. Honda engineered it for quiet operation and daily comfort, not outright performance. That restrictive airbox and convoluted piping chokes the B17A1 or B18 DOHC, forcing it to pull hot, turbulent air from under the hood. You feel it most when you’re pushing it — that hesitant pull, the flat spots in the RPM range. It’s literally stifling the power potential Honda built into these engines.
The Solution: We engineered this cold air intake system to correct those factory design flaws, delivering reliable, measurable performance. By relocating the filter to an area that draws in cooler, denser ambient air, and utilizing a high-flow, smooth-bore induction tube, your B17A1 or B18 DOHC engine can finally inhale properly. This means more oxygen for a stronger, more complete combustion cycle, translating directly into improved horsepower and torque across the board. It’s not just about the numbers; it’s about how the car feels — more responsive, more eager, more like the Integra you know it can be.
Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade
- Real-World Performance: Experience up to a 10% increase in horsepower and torque. This isn’t just a peak number; it’s a noticeable improvement in throttle response, sharper acceleration, and a stronger pull all the way to redline. You’ll feel the difference, especially in those higher RPMs where the B-series truly comes alive.
- Optimized Thermal Management: Unlike stock systems that pull hot air, our design strategically positions the filter to draw in colder, denser air from outside the engine bay. Colder air equals more oxygen, and more oxygen means a more efficient and powerful combustion — a fundamental principle of engine tuning.
- Enhanced Driving Experience: Beyond the power gains, you’ll immediately notice a more direct connection between your foot and the engine. Gone are the spongy throttle responses; in comes an instant, crisp reaction. Plus, that characteristic B-series induction roar under heavy acceleration? It gets a proper voice, giving your Integra an aggressive, mechanical symphony.
- Durable & Reliable Design: Featuring high-velocity induction piping and a high-flow, reusable air filter, this system is built to last. It maintains steady air velocity for consistent performance, whether you’re commuting daily or taking it to the track. The filtration ensures your high-revving engine is protected from harmful debris while maximizing airflow.
- Hassle-Free Installation: This is a complete bolt-on kit, meaning no cutting or extra fabrication is required. It comes with all the necessary couplers, clamps, and hardware, ensuring a secure fitment directly replacing your restrictive factory components.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 60-90 Minutes
- Difficulty: 4/10 - Straightforward wrenching, but fighting 30-year-old rusted resonator bolts and brittle rubber on the DA9/DB1 chassis requires patience.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm and 12mm sockets (3/8" drive)
- 10mm wrench
- Long socket extension (At least 8-10 inches for hidden fender bolts)
- Flathead screwdriver or 8mm nut driver (For hose clamps)
- Panel popper tool (For fender liner clips)
- Needle-nose pliers (For factory spring clamps)
The 1990-1993 Acura Integra community universally loathes the factory resonator box. Acura buried this massive plastic "lung" deep inside the passenger-side front bumper. The mounting bolts are notorious for rusting out over the last three decades. Hit the lower mounting bolts with penetrating oil before you start. Furthermore, be extremely delicate with the factory PCV valve cover breather hose; 30-year-old Honda rubber turns to hard plastic and will snap off at the valve cover nipple if you rip it aggressively.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights while upgrading your 1990-1993 Acura Integra 1.8L.
- Detach Vacuum and Breather Lines: Locate the PCV breather hose connecting the valve cover to the factory intake arm. Use needle-nose pliers to compress the factory spring clamp and gently twist and pull the hose off the nipple. Do not bend the hose sideways, or it will crack.
- Loosen the Intake Tube: Use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the band clamp securing the factory rubber intake arm to the throttle body. Pull the tube completely off the throttle body.
- Remove the Upper Airbox: Unbolt the upper factory airbox assembly from the engine bay using a 10mm socket. Lift the entire upper box and filter assembly out of the engine bay.
- Extract the Hidden Resonator: Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right. Use a panel popper tool to remove the plastic push-clips holding the passenger-side fender liner (splash guard) and peel it back. Use your 10mm socket and a long extension to unbolt the hidden factory resonator box from inside the bumper cavity and maneuver it out.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Acura Integra LS RS GS GSR SE (1990-1993) 1.8L Engine
- Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone step-down coupler onto your B-Series throttle body. Slide two worm-gear clamps over the coupler, but leave them loose. Tighten the throttle body side clamp until snug using an 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver.
- Route the Cold Air Pipe: Take the main cold air intake pipe and feed it downward through the factory opening in the engine bay into the passenger fender well area. Slide the top portion of the pipe into the silicone coupler on the throttle body.
- Secure the Mounting Bracket: Align the welded bracket on the intake pipe with the factory rubber vibration isolation mount on the chassis. Secure it using a 10mm socket. Do not overtighten; the pipe needs a small amount of flex to move with engine torque. Tighten the remaining clamp at the throttle body.
- Mount the Pod Filter: From underneath the vehicle (or through the peeled-back fender liner), slide the high-flow pod filter onto the end of the intake pipe resting inside the bumper cavity. Tighten the filter clamp firmly using your 8mm socket. Reinstall the fender liner with your factory push-clips.
- Reconnect the Breather Hose & Initialize ECU: Attach the provided aftermarket PCV breather hose (or your factory hose if it’s still pliable) from the valve cover to the welded nipple on the new intake pipe. Secure it with the provided clamps. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle, but do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds to allow the Honda ECU to learn the new airflow density and establish a smooth idle.
