Tired of your Acura ILX feeling a bit muted off the line? Imagine unlocking a surge of power and a more responsive engine with every press of the pedal.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Acura ILX (2.4L Engine)

The factory air intake system in your 2013-2015 Acura ILX 2.4L, while functional, is designed with quiet operation and cost-effectiveness in mind, often restricting airflow to the engine. Its narrow ducting and restrictive paper filter create a bottleneck that prevents your K24Z7 engine from breathing freely, leading to a "laggy" throttle response and leaving untapped horsepower on the table.

This high-flow cold air intake system specifically addresses these limitations by replacing the entire restrictive OEM air box and piping with a streamlined, high-velocity induction path. Engineered to draw a larger volume of cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay, it feeds your 2.4L 4-cylinder engine exactly what it craves for more efficient combustion, resulting in a noticeable boost in power, torque, and throttle sensitivity for an exhilarating driving experience.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Horsepower & Torque Boost: Experience a noticeable gain of up to 10% in both horsepower and torque, translating to stronger acceleration and more confident passing power.
  • Optimized Airflow: Replaces narrow factory ducting with a high-flow pathway, ensuring your engine receives an abundant supply of oxygen-rich air for peak performance.
  • Sharper Throttle Response: Eliminates the "laggy" feeling often associated with the stock intake, providing immediate power delivery and crisper throttle feedback.
  • Improved Combustion Efficiency: Balances air-to-fuel ratios for a more effective burn, which can contribute to better fuel utilization during everyday driving.
  • Enhanced Engine Acoustics: Transforms your ILX’s sound profile, delivering a more aggressive, sporty induction growl under acceleration that complements its performance.
  • Long-Term Reliability: Constructed from premium, heat-resistant materials with a high-flow, washable, and reusable air filter, ensuring durable and consistent performance for years to come.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 60-90 Minutes (removing the factory resonator takes time)
  • Difficulty: 4/10 - Getting the factory baffle box out of the fender well is the most tedious part.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket, ratchet, and a 6-inch extension (for battery and factory airbox bolts)
  • 8mm socket or 5/16" nut driver (for tightening hose clamps)
  • Panel popper tool (for removing fender liner clips safely)
  • Phillips #2 screwdriver (specifically a fresh PH2 for the MAF sensor)
  • Pliers (for the factory PCV breather hose spring clamps)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 2013-2015 Acura ILX 2.4L shares the K24Z7 engine with the 9th-Gen Civic Si, meaning it has the exact same forum-famous headaches. First, the factory screws holding the MAF sensor are notoriously soft and strip easily—push down hard with a fresh Phillips #2 screwdriver while turning. Second, the factory lower resonator is a massive piece of plastic hidden entirely behind the bumper. Don’t try to force it out the top; pop the clips on the driver-side wheel well liner and pull it out through the bottom to save your knuckles and avoid breaking brittle factory plastics.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 2013-2015 Acura ILX 2.4L using a 10mm socket to prevent check engine lights and short circuits.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on the top of the factory airbox. Depress the thumb tab on the wiring harness and gently pull backwards to disconnect it. Tuck the wire out of the way.
  3. Loosen Hose Clamps & Breather: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the hose clamp securing the factory rubber intake hose to the throttle body. Next, use your pliers to squeeze the spring clamp on the PCV breather hose and pull the hose off the main intake tube.
  4. Remove the Upper Airbox: Unclip the factory metal tabs holding the airbox lid. Remove the lid and the rubber intake hose as one unit. Then, use your 10mm socket and extension to remove the bolts holding the lower half of the airbox to the engine bay bracket. Pull the lower box out.
  5. Extract the Fender Resonator: Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right. Use your panel popper to remove the plastic push-clips holding the front driver-side inner fender liner. Pull the liner back to expose the factory plastic resonator box. Remove the hidden 10mm bolts securing it to the chassis, and pull the entire box out downward through the wheel well.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Acura ILX (2013-2015) 2.4L Engine Red

  1. Prep the Throttle Body: Wipe the lip of the factory throttle body with a clean rag. Slide the new silicone transition coupler onto the throttle body and hand-tighten the hose clamp just enough to hold it in place using your 8mm socket.
  2. Transfer the MAF Sensor (CRITICAL): Using your Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the two factory screws holding the MAF sensor in the original housing. Gently pull the sensor straight out. Do not touch or drop the exposed amber sensor bulb! Transfer the sensor immediately into your new intake tube, ensuring the airflow arrow points toward the throttle body. Secure it using the supplied hardware.
  3. Route the Intake Tube: Carefully feed the red cold air intake pipe down into the freshly opened fender well cavity where the factory resonator used to live. Guide the top end into your silicone coupler at the throttle body. Tighten down both hose clamps securely with your 8mm socket.
  4. Install Filter and Reconnect: Crawl under the fender and slide the high-flow air filter onto the bottom of the intake tube, locking it down with your 8mm socket. Back up top, reconnect the PCV breather hose to the new welded port using your pliers. Plug the MAF harness back in until you hear a distinct click. Reinstall your fender liner clips securely.
  5. Battery and ECU Relearn: Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten it down with your 10mm socket. Start the engine. On the first startup, the vehicle gas pedal should not be touched for a 20 seconds until the ECU adjusts to the massive increase in airflow. Check for any whistling or vacuum leaks.
