Tired of your Acura ILX’s engine feeling breathless and sluggish? Imagine a responsive throttle and a surge of power that truly unlocks your 2.4L’s potential, making every drive exhilarating.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Acura ILX (2013-2015) 2.4L Engine

The factory intake system on your 2013-2015 Acura ILX 2.4L is designed for quiet operation and cost-effectiveness, not maximum performance. Its narrow tubing, restrictive bends, and paper filter elements choke the K24Z7 engine, limiting its ability to draw in the cool, dense air it needs for optimal combustion, leading to a subdued throttle response and untapped horsepower.

This high-flow cold air intake system completely re-engineers your ILX’s induction path, replacing the inefficient stock components with a wide-diameter, smooth-bore tube and a premium, free-flowing air filter. By delivering a significantly greater volume of colder, oxygen-rich air directly to your engine, this upgrade ensures more efficient combustion, resulting in a noticeable boost in horsepower and torque, along with a sharper, more engaging driving experience.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Enhanced Power Output: Boosts your 2.4L engine’s horsepower and torque by up to 10%, transforming daily commutes and spirited drives alike.
  • Improved Throttle Response: Eliminates the common "laggy" feel of the OEM intake, providing instant power delivery and crisper acceleration when you demand it.
  • Aggressive Engine Note: Unlocks a deeper, sportier induction sound under acceleration, enhancing the driving experience without being overbearing.
  • Optimized Fuel Efficiency: Promotes a more complete and efficient combustion cycle by improving the air-to-fuel ratio, potentially leading to better fuel economy.
  • Superior Durability: Constructed from high-grade, heat-resistant piping and featuring a washable, reusable filter for long-lasting, dependable performance.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 60-90 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 4/10 - The mechanical steps are simple, but wrestling the factory K24Z7 resonator out of the fender cavity tests your patience.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket with a ratchet
  • 12-inch socket extension (Crucial for blind resonator bolts)
  • 8mm nut driver (For hose clamps)
  • Phillips #2 screwdriver
  • Plastic panel popper tool
  • Needle-nose pliers
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 2013-2015 Acura ILX 2.4L shares the K24Z7 engine with the Civic Si, meaning it shares the same hyper-sensitive Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor. Never touch the exposed wire bulb on the MAF sensor during transfer, or you will trigger an immediate rough idle and Check Engine Light. Secondly, to remove the massive factory resonator hidden in the lower bumper, you must peel back the splash shield. Use a proper panel popper—those factory plastic clips are notoriously brittle and will snap if you pry them with a flathead.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights on your 2013-2015 Acura ILX 2.4L.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Gently depress the tab on the MAF wiring harness and pull it free. Use your Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the MAF to the factory airbox. Carefully pull it straight out, avoiding contact with the sensor bulb, and set it somewhere safe.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Breather Hose: Squeeze the spring clamp on the factory rubber breather hose with your needle-nose pliers and slide it back. Wiggle the hose free from the OEM intake tube.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Grab your 8mm nut driver and loosen the band clamp securing the corrugated rubber intake hose to the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Airbox and Resonator (The Forum Headache): Remove the visible 10mm bolts holding the upper airbox using your 10mm socket and pull the upper box out. Next, turn your steering wheel all the way inward to expose the driver-side fender liner. Use your panel popper to remove the clips, peel the liner back, and use your 10mm socket and 12-inch extension to unbolt the hidden lower resonator bracket. Wrench the clunky plastic U-shaped resonator out through the bottom cavity.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Acura ILX (2013-2015) 2.4L Engine - Black

  1. Install the Silicone Coupler: Slide the supplied silicone reducer coupler over the factory throttle body. Secure the throttle body side using the provided T-bolt or worm-gear clamp and your 8mm nut driver. Leave the intake-side clamp loose.
  2. Mount the Heat Shield and Intake Tube: Assemble the provided heat shield and drop it into the engine bay, securing it to the factory airbox mounting points using your 10mm socket. Carefully feed the new black aluminum intake tube down into the fender cavity and slide the top end into the silicone coupler. Snug the clamp down with your 8mm nut driver.
  3. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Carefully insert your K24Z7 MAF sensor into the new billet MAF housing on the aftermarket tube. Secure it using the supplied hardware (often requires a 3mm or 4mm Allen wrench). Reconnect the factory wiring harness until you hear an audible click.
  4. Attach the Breather Hose: Connect the provided silicone breather hose from the engine’s crankcase port to the welded nipple on your new intake tube. Secure both ends with the supplied clamps using needle-nose pliers or an 8mm nut driver.
  5. Install the High-Flow Filter: Reaching up through the peeled-back fender liner, slide the new high-flow air filter onto the bottom of the intake tube. Tighten the filter clamp securely with your 8mm nut driver, then reinstall your fender liner clips.
  6. Perform the ECU Relearn: Reconnect your negative battery terminal. Start the vehicle. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the car idle so the factory ECU can calibrate to the increased airflow and establish a smooth baseline idle.
