The Stock VQ37VHR Induction Shortcomings

The factory induction system on the Nissan 370Z and Infiniti G37 is engineered for sound suppression rather than raw volumetric efficiency. The OEM setup utilizes restrictive paper filters housed in plastic boxes, connected by corrugated rubber bellows. These accordioned hoses create massive internal turbulence, disrupting the air column before it reaches the throttle bodies. Additionally, the factory plastic housings are highly susceptible to heat soak in the cramped VQ engine bay, leading the ECU to retard ignition timing as temperatures rise, which results in a noticeable loss of mid-range torque and top-end throttle response.
