The Stock K5 Exhaust Restriction

The OEM exhaust system on the 2021-2024 Kia K5 is engineered primarily for cabin NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) suppression rather than flow efficiency. The factory unit utilizes narrow-diameter piping and heavy, baffled mufflers that create significant exhaust gas turbulence. This internal resistance increases backpressure, which forces the turbocharger to work harder to evacuate spent gases, ultimately leading to higher EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) and parasitic power loss. Furthermore, the stock mild steel construction is susceptible to weld-point corrosion and thermal fatigue over repeated heat cycles.
