Catalytic Converter for GMC Envoy (2002-2005) 4.2L

Direct-Fit Replacement Catalytic Converter for 2002-2005 GMC Envoy (GMT360)

What it Does: The direct-fit catalytic converter replaces the deteriorated factory emissions core on the 2002-2005 GMC Envoy to eliminate P0420 diagnostic trouble codes and restore factory exhaust gas scavenging.

The Stock GMC Envoy Catalyst Degradation

The OEM catalytic converter on the GMT360 platform suffers from thermal breakdown and precious metal washcoat depletion over extended heat cycles. Operating the naturally aspirated inline-six under sustained loads degrades the internal honeycomb matrix, resulting in catalyst fracturing, substrate sintering, and restricted exhaust flow. When the washcoat fails to facilitate proper reduction and oxidation reactions, downstream O2 sensors register sub-threshold conversion efficiency, triggering persistent P0420/P0430 DTCs, poor fuel economy, and potential internal backpressure spikes that stifle top-end power.

The Engineering Solution

This replacement converter utilizes a high-flow ceramic honeycomb substrate engineered with an active catalytic washcoat to maximize surface area contact and optimize exhaust gas dwell time. Encased in a heavy-gauge, corrosion-resistant stainless steel body, the assembly withstands road debris and severe thermal shock without shell distortion. The system integrates precision-formed loose inlet flanges, an OEM-style 2-bolt welded outlet flange, and factory-placed oxygen sensor bungs to guarantee a leak-free mechanical seal without custom cutting, pipe expanding, or MIG welding.
