Catalytic Converter for Chevrolet Suburban (1996-1998) 5.7L

Direct-Fit Catalytic Converter for 1996-1998 Chevrolet Suburban (GMT400)

What it Does: The direct-fit catalytic converter replaces the aged emissions core on the 1996-1998 Suburban to eliminate exhaust restrictions, extinguish catalyst efficiency DTCs, and restore exhaust flow velocity.

The Stock Chevrolet Suburban Catalytic Substrate Degradation

Over decades of heat cycles and cold-start rich conditions, the factory ceramic substrate on GMT400 trucks suffers from thermal fatigue, washcoat sintering, and internal cell meltdown. In the 5.7L applications, this deterioration creates severe exhaust backpressure, choking top-end power output, driving up exhaust gas temperatures, and tripping OBD-II trouble codes such as P0420 and P0430 under load.

The Engineering Solution

This replacement assembly utilizes a high-flow ceramic honeycomb substrate coated with a high-grade precious metal washcoat to rapidly convert HC, CO, and NOx emissions without bottlenecking cylinder scavenging. Constructed with a heavy-gauge stainless steel outer shell and aluminized tubing, the unit resists road de-icer corrosion and thermal expansion cracks. Robotically welded flanges and pre-positioned O2 sensor bungs mirror the OEM configuration, allowing seamless bolt-in replacement without cutting or custom pipe expansion.
