Tools You Will Need

• 10mm wrench or socket (for battery quick-disconnect/terminal)
• T25 & T30 Torx drivers (quarter-inch drive or precision hand drivers)
• 7mm & 8mm nut drivers or micro-ratchet (for intake hose clamps)
• Non-marring nylon panel tool (for trim and sensor lock tabs)
• Automotive painter’s tape & clean microfiber towels (to mask painted deck lid edges)

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

1. Disconnect the Battery: Open the front passenger footwell access panel (or front trunk depending on battery tender setup) and disconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. This prevents short circuits and clears fuel trim memory on your 2010-2014 Ferrari 458.
2. Prep and Protect the Engine Bay: Prop the rear glass engine hatch fully. Apply automotive painter’s tape along the painted deck lid edges and rear quarter panels to prevent belt-buckle or tool scratches while leaning over the V8 engine bay.
3. Remove Engine Bay Trim Panels: Using a T25 Torx driver, remove the perimeter fasteners holding the carbon fiber or composite side trim panels flanking the intake plenum. Carefully lift the panels out using a non-marring nylon panel tool to clear the mounting grommets.
4. Disconnect Dual MAF Sensor Harnesses: Locate the twin Bosch MAF sensor plugs on both intake tracts. Using your thumb or a nylon pry tool, slide the locking tabs back and gently unplug both electrical connectors. Do not pull on the wiring loom.
5. Loosen Intake Couplers: Use a 7mm nut driver to loosen the worm-gear clamps securing the silicone intake boots to the factory airbox outlets and throttle body inlets. Slide the couplers back onto the ducting.
6. Unbolt the Factory Airbox: Remove the factory perimeter retaining fasteners securing the OEM airbox lid using a T25 Torx driver. Carefully extract the OEM lid and remove the factory paper panel filters from the lower housing.

Phase 2: Installing the Carbon Racing Air Intake Filter

1. Inspect and Clean the Airbox Lower Tray: Vacuum any loose debris, dust, or road grime from inside the lower intake tray. Wipe down all sealing surfaces with a lint-free microfiber towel to ensure an airtight seal.
2. Transfer Sensors & Hardware: If your new assembly requires MAF housing relocation, use a T20 Torx driver to transfer the OEM sensors into the new carbon housing ports. Ensure the internal rubber O-rings are seated flat in their grooves; do not touch the delicate hot-wire sensor elements.
3. Seat the Carbon Racing Air Intake Filters: Insert the new performance racing filters into the lower housing guide channels. Ensure the silicone sealing perimeter sits completely flush with zero pinching or binding around the edges.
4. Mount and Fasten the Carbon Lid: Place the Carbon Racing Air Intake cover over the filters. Hand-thread all mounting screws first, then use a T25 Torx hand driver to tighten them down in a criss-cross pattern until snug (do not exceed 2.5 to 3.0 Nm).
5. Reattach Couplers and Sensor Harnesses: Reconnect the silicone intake boots over the carbon intake necks. Snug the hose clamps using a 7mm nut driver until firmly seated—do not over-tighten against the carbon. Re-engage the dual MAF wiring plugs until you hear an audible click from the locking tabs.
6. Reinstall Trim & Reconnect Battery: Reinstall the engine bay side trim panels using your T25 Torx driver. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench and tighten the terminal nut.
7. ECU Idle Relearn Protocol: Close the rear deck lid. Turn the ignition key to the "MAR" (ON) position for 10 seconds without starting to allow the throttle bodies to align. Start the engine, and do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds while the Bosch Motronic ECUs adapt to the increased airflow at idle.
