The Stock Mountaineer Cooling Deficiencies

Factory U251 platforms rely on OEM radiators manufactured with stamped aluminum cores crimped to composite plastic end-tanks. Over continuous heat cycling, disparate expansion rates between the aluminum core and plastic tanks compromise the internal elastomer O-ring seals, precipitating seam failure and coolant loss. Furthermore, the stock core volume easily heat-soaks when hauling or driving in hot climates, leaving both the 4.0L Cologne and 4.6L Modular powertrains prone to elevated operating temperatures.

The Engineering Solution

This direct-replacement unit utilizes a 100% TIG-welded aluminum structure, replacing failure-prone plastic tanks with durable aluminum side tanks. The high-density, brazed 3-row tube-and-fin configuration significantly expands core fluid volume and heat dissipation surface area. Engineered to OEM DPI 2952 geometry, it features factory-correct mounting locations, inlet/outlet barb sizing, and an integrated transmission cooler loop to ensure drop-in installation without front-end modifications.
