The factory M274 engine air box on the 2016-2018 GLC-Class is engineered primarily for sound suppression and manufacturing efficiency rather than optimal power. The OEM design utilizes a baffled plastic enclosure and a dense paper panel filter, creating a convoluted air path that introduces turbulence and pressure drops before the turbo inlet. Furthermore, the standard plastic housing is highly susceptible to heat soak in the cramped engine bay, absorbing radiant thermal energy from the turbocharger. This elevates intake air temperatures (IATs), causing the ECU to retard timing and limit output under high load conditions.

The Engineering Solution

This induction kit eliminates factory bottlenecks by streamlining the intake tract directly to the 2.0L turbocharger. Utilizing smooth-bore piping with a durable black finish, the system minimizes internal turbulence to maintain high air velocity. A high-flow conical air filter drastically increases the total surface area for filtration. To combat thermal degradation, a dedicated heat shield physically isolates the filter element from radiant engine bay heat, ensuring denser oxygen reaches the combustion chamber. This yields a dyno-proven gain of +9.5 horsepower and +13.7 Nm of torque at 4900 RPM. Filter maintenance is required every 20,000 km, with replacement at 60,000 km.
