What it Does: Replaces the restrictive factory air box and corrugated plastic piping with a high-volume aluminum induction system to decrease intake air temperatures and increase mass airflow to the B58 turbocharger.

The Stock 2 Series Airflow Restriction

The factory intake system on the G42 M240i is engineered primarily for noise suppression and cost-efficiency rather than maximum volumetric efficiency. The OEM assembly utilizes a restrictive paper element filter housed within a plastic box that is prone to heat soak during aggressive driving or high-ambient temperature conditions. Furthermore, the stock corrugated intake bellows create internal air turbulence, disrupting the laminar flow required for optimal turbocharger spool and throttle response. This bottleneck limits the B58’s ability to reach its full thermal and power potential, especially when running higher-than-stock boost levels.

The Engineering Solution

This intake system utilizes mandrel-bent aluminum piping to provide a smooth, consistent internal diameter, significantly reducing drag and turbulence. The kit features a 360-degree inverted cone reusable filter, which provides a much larger surface area for filtration compared to the flat stock panel, allowing for higher CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) ratings. To combat the radiant heat generated by the B58 engine, a specialized heat shield is included to isolate the air intake from the engine bay’s thermal pocket. This ensures the engine pulls cooler, denser air from the front of the vehicle, resulting in dyno-proven gains of up to 16hp and 28nm of torque without requiring a custom ECU recalibration.
