The Stock Road King, Road Glide Air Intake Bottleneck

The factory air cleaner assembly on 2008-2016 Touring models is engineered primarily for noise reduction and emissions compliance, which creates a significant pneumatic bottleneck at higher RPMs. The enclosed plastic housing often traps ambient heat, leading to increased intake air temperatures (IATs) and reduced oxygen density. Additionally, the stock breather system vents oil vapor into the combustion chamber in a non-optimized manner, often leading to carbon buildup on valves and piston crowns. This restriction prevents the Twin Cam 96 and 103 engines from reaching their true volumetric efficiency, particularly when paired with high-flow exhaust systems.

The Engineering Solution

This kit employs a precision CNC-machined aluminum backing plate designed with a radiused inlet to eliminate turbulence and promote smooth, high-velocity airflow. By utilizing an exposed 360-degree filter element, the surface area for induction is vastly increased compared to the OEM paper element. The integrated internal crankcase breathers utilize a discrete internal routing system, eliminating the need for external hoses and maintaining a clean aesthetic while ensuring crankcase pressure is managed without mess.
