The Stock Road Glide Intake Deficiencies

The OEM intake system on the 2008-2016 Road Glide is engineered primarily for EPA noise compliance and cost-effective manufacturing rather than peak performance. The stock plastic housing creates a bottleneck, forcing the Twin Cam engine to pull air through a narrow, baffled entry point. This restriction causes high-vacuum conditions in the intake tract, leading to sluggish throttle response and increased intake air temperatures (IATs). Furthermore, the factory breather system often vents oily crankcase vapors directly back into the intake stream, which can lead to carbon fouling on the throttle body butterfly and intake valves over time.

The Engineering Solution

This kit utilizes a CNC-machined Billet Aluminum backing plate and faceplate to provide a rigid, heat-resistant foundation that won't warp under high-vibration V-Twin operation. The exposed filter design provides 360 degrees of airflow, significantly increasing the available surface area for air induction compared to the shrouded stock unit. Internally, the backing plate features a radiused venturi inlet to minimize turbulence and promote laminar flow into the throttle body. The system includes integrated internal crankcase breathers, eliminating the need for external hoses or catch cans, while the high-flow pleated element provides superior filtration without the pressure drop found in paper filters.
