The Stock WRX, WRX STI Cooling Limitation

The factory OEM radiator in the GD-chassis Subaru WRX and STI utilizes a single-row core paired with crimped plastic end tanks. Over constant thermal cycles, the plastic becomes brittle, leading to micro-fractures and coolant blowouts at the seams. Furthermore, the restrictive single-row design lacks the fluid capacity and fin surface area required to efficiently dissipate heat during heavy loads. Once the EJ engine experiences heat soak, the ECU pulls ignition timing to prevent detonation, resulting in power loss and placing the sensitive factory head gaskets at severe risk of thermal warping.

The Engineering Solution

This performance unit upgrades the cooling system with TIG-welded, all-aluminum construction, completely eliminating the failure-prone plastic end tanks. Engineered with a dense 3-row tube core measuring 27.50 x 13.50 inches, it dramatically increases both fluid capacity and external fin surface area for optimized airflow dynamics. The aluminum construction offers superior thermal conductivity, ensuring rapid heat dissipation even under sustained boost. Standard 1.50-inch ports guarantee a direct drop-in fit for factory or silicone hoses. Additionally, the included high-pressure radiator cap raises the boiling point of the coolant, safeguarding against localized boiling and cavitation within the Boxer engine's water jacket.
