The Stock Xterra Cooling System Weakness

The factory N50 cooling assembly relies on crimped plastic end tanks bonded to an aluminum core via rubber gaskets. Thermal cycling and off-road chassis flex degrade these crimp seams over time, leading to micro-fractures, coolant loss, and catastrophic pressure drops. More critically, the internal transmission oil cooler line inside the stock radiator is notoriously prone to corrosion and rupture, causing the cross-contamination of automatic transmission fluid with engine coolant (commonly referred to as SMOD). This contamination destroys the transmission friction plates and valve body solenoids.

This performance radiator features 100% TIG-welded aircraft-grade aluminum construction, completely eliminating failure-prone plastic end tanks and mechanical crimp seals. The brazed high-density core increases fluid capacity and optimizes heat transfer via multi-louvered cooling fins. By utilizing robust internal routing and reinforced structural mounting brackets, this unit withstands severe trail vibration while providing consistent thermal dissipation for both the engine coolant and the integrated automatic transmission fluid circuit.
