High-Capacity Performance Radiator for 1995-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Direct-fit, full-aluminum cooling upgrade: Replaces the factory plastic-tank radiator to eliminate failure points and significantly lower coolant temperatures during high-stress driving.

The Stock 2G Eclipse Thermal Weakness

The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) radiator on the 1995-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse relies on a thin, single-row core crimped to plastic end tanks. Over decades of thermal cycling in the engine bay, these plastic tanks become brittle and develop micro-fractures, eventually leading to catastrophic coolant blowouts at the crimped seams. Furthermore, the factory core thickness is inadequate for modified 4G63T or high-revving 420A engines. When subjected to extended boost periods, track conditions, or dense traffic, the factory unit suffers from severe heat soak, failing to dissipate thermal loads efficiently. This results in dangerous coolant temperature spikes, causing the ECU to pull timing and significantly reduce engine output to prevent detonation.

The Engineering Solution

This upgraded performance radiator resolves OEM thermal limitations by utilizing a 100% TIG-welded, all-aluminum construction. By discarding the plastic end tanks in favor of robust aerospace-grade aluminum, the structural integrity of the cooling system is vastly improved, allowing it to withstand higher internal pressures without seam failure. The core is upgraded to a dense 2-row configuration measuring 27.25" x 13.25" x 1.75", substantially increasing fluid capacity and overall surface area for heat dissipation. The internal fin density is specifically optimized to maximize airflow dynamics across the core while minimizing static pressure drop. Featuring dual 1.5-inch inlet and outlet ports that match factory routing, this unit drops directly into the OEM core support, ensuring efficient thermal exchange that stabilizes operating temperatures even under harsh track abuse.
